I'm going to be fostering a really cute little chap from work & i'm all excited ! I saw him looking all bewildered & sad in his kennel today, he's quite shy & very, very hand shy round his head & shoulders, so obviously this will need loads of work. He's only six months old but there was just something about him.
I'm hoping he'll cope with my own 3 dogs & 2 kids, my 3 are steady with other dogs & have had friends dogs in & out of our house with no problems ( but i dont think he's been socialised bless him ) .
Had to tell someone who's into dogs as everyone else thinks i'm mad ! lol :D
Fingers crossed it all goes well

Awh bless him I bet he's fallen on his paws with you :)

Good luck with the little fella...sounds like you're just what he needs to bring him out of his shell and give him a chance at a happy life. Good on you :)

Good on you, and the best of luck with him :)

Hi Stanley,

I love to hear happy stories of dogs that have had it rough (although I hate to think of them getting that way :( )  Good for you taking him on and I'm sure he'll come on leaps and bounds with you.

Good luck and keep us posted.  Teri :)

Aww thanks guys :D he's walked into our home as though he's been here forever, all my dogs have been fab with him. Stan was a little over exhuberant with him but Fraggle ( new boy's name lol ) kept enticing him to play with some lovely play bows & stan has modified his playfullness & is a little less in your face. Reba is Reba & is great with him & Le Crum is being a tartlet ( is in season so its a juggle lol ).
Not sure how long he's staying as yet  ( i have a sneaky feeling he wont be leaving :D )
The OH came with me to pick him up & his face was a classic :O i'd told him he was small & black & white what i hadn't told him was that he's a powder puff ;-) pmsl :D
He likes Fraggle & has described him as erm ..... "different"
I have been looking at some fab fake gem collars & clips for his hair ;-)  . I do 99% of the walking but i have to say i will be in tears watching the OH walking a Rottie & a fluffly podwer puff with a hair clip & diamond collar :D
Dont worry i'm not fostering Fraggle just make my OH look camp ;-)
Be interesting to see him with a chicken wing later :-)
I've rambled enough, thanks for the warm wishes.

Methinks this will be a very long term "fostering"

Glad Fraggle's(great name BTW!) settling in fine Jo, I know someone with a PP and a Rottie - no prizes for guessing who is in the charge...the poor Rottie doesn't stand a chance :D

It's been a bit of a roller coaster so far lol :D work rang late afternoon yesterday to tell me that Fraggle was going back to his original owners  :-( This is after he's been treated for a bad ear infection & has had all his jabs at the cost of the shelter, they had changed their minds & they wanted him back, to say that i was gobsmacked was an understatement considering how hand shy he really is  ....
Supervisor planted a few seeds apparently & asked them to sleep on it ( unbeknown to me ) they rang at lunch time to say yes they deffinately wanted him, so they were asked how they'd deal with the issues that made them hand him in, in the begining ...... anyway to cut a long story short they then changed their minds again & he's now with us for a little while ( more like a long time ;-) )
I'm not angry with the original owners, just baffled. I suppose it all comes down to everyone is different & what i find acceptable someone else might not. I would have been gutted if he had have gone back, he's now fallen in lurrvvveeee with Reba, adores the other 2 & is now letting me tickle his chin ( on his terms :-) ) he's not brill at eating but then thats normal considering. The OH gave him a chicken wing today :D & apparently he loved it ! so at least he's eaten something lol.
You wouldnt even know he was here, no one accident, no noise at night, he's been good to leave ( short periods obviously, just doing a bit of home alone with him ) he's not been noisy at all which is why he was brought in.
It's quite funny, i feel like the people i visit, i KNOW i'm in the honeymoon period, yet i'm sitting here with a smug smile on my face, i could judt imagine what i'd be saying if i were being visited by me :D pmsl.
Just thought i'd let you know that so far he's settled well :D

In your position I think I would try to get some kind of signed transferr from the original owners in favour of the shelter - that way they cant change their minds again. I do hope he stays with you...the little chap has gone through enough trauma.

I think to be honest Fillis they've not got a leg to stand on paper  work wise, but it would have "looked " bad to the public if we hadn't have been open & asked them to sleep on it after all if it weren't for people we couldnt run :-( so we do need to appear to be doing the best thing for the dog but alos for the people, the supervisor knew that if she planted a few seeds of thinking that they'd realise in the end, so in the end it was their decision :D.
Paper work has been signed by my section head that he's here on foster, if he settles & this is what he needs i can adopt him ( which is highly likely ). Just need to sort his travel sickness out bless him, Tohme gave me some homeopahic idea's which i will order online now i know he's he for a while.
I'm feeling dead chuffed that he's here :D

Could you share the travel sickness remedies with us? Mine arent car sick, but we are travelling to Ireland on the Ferry in Sep, and I would like to be prepared just in case. I intend to get the DAP spray in case the strange noises are unsettling, as they have to stay in the car for the crossing.

Hi Fillis, i asked Tohme cos she's good at these things :D, i knew about cocculus but not the other.
Hope you dont mind me passing this on Tohme ?
OF course I do not think you are rude.

There are various remedies for travel sickness

Use Petroleum 6c to prevent travel sickness. Give a dose just before the
journey starts, then at hourly intervals up to a maximum of 4 doses.

Use Cocculus 6c for a dog that has excessive drooling or has been sick.
Give one dose then repeat every 30 minutes for a maximum of 4 doses.

Scullcap and Valerian can be useful as can ginger biscuits.

If you look on the web Ainsworths and Helios have travel sickness remedies which might help you and they have a good help line too.
