My 10month old cocker spaniel girl, or should I say woman! has come into season for the first time. She is doing great, just a little quieter than usual and more cuddily (if that is possible!) I would be grateful if anyone could tell me what the different stages of the season are and how long they last for. i.e. how long will she have a bloody discharge etc. I have no plans to breed from her and will probably get her speyed after this season. My vet said to wait 3 months after this season to allow for the blood supply etc. to return to normal.

Hi Funky
She will be much more affectionate and may go off her feed a bit.
Bleeding should slow down to an almost colourless discharge towards the end of 2nd week. Usually lasts about 3 weeks in total but my IW bitch's first season lasted 33 days.
Used to work as a receptionist at vets and think that speying can be done any time from 6 - 8 weeks after season, but don't quote me on that l could be wrong!
You can wash her every day and sometimes l use some tea tree oil on a damp cloth too.
Hope that helps.
Nicky
