Topic Dog Boards / Health / Lump after tick removal

My dog had a pretty well fed tick removed a couple of weeks ago. The vet thinks she got all of it out as it was still alive and moving. He's developed a hard lump at the site now. It doesn't bother him and he doesn't have any other symptoms or changes in behaviour but it is a bit of a concern. I've read that some dogs do get hard lumps from tick bites but I'd just like to know if anyone else has had this problem and if so when should the lump go down. Thanks for your help.

One of my dogs always has a nasty reaction to ticks and ends up with quite a large lump which causes her no problems at all.  I can't recall how long it lasts but I think it's quite a while.

If you just soak them in Fronline they just die and drop off in 24 hours.....

Thanks Helen. That's reassured me a bit because I was starting to think it could be something serious. Still going to keep a close eye on it but at least I know its not unusual. He's been Frontlined now so hopefully that should stop him getting any more unwelcome dinner guests!
