I HAVE SPOKEN TO THIS LADY & HER HUSBAND & THEY SEEM VERY NICE & ASKED LOTS OF QUESTIONS, BUT TAKEN OUT TO THE CARAVAN ??? 3 PUPPIES AT ONCE ????? I DONT FEEL COMFORTABLE ABOUT THIS ,AFTER READING THINGS IN THIS FORUM ( I HAVE JUST LEARNT ABOUT ENDORSEMENTS & UNFORTUNATELY HAVE GOT THE KC PAPERS NOT ENDORSED !) ANY ADVICE APPRECIATED THANKS

If you are unhappy with the situation (and I would be) be honest with this couple, tell them you are unwilling to let them have the pup and why, and return their deposit.
- By Goldmali Date 31.07.05 22:44 UTC
If it was me I'd return the deposit and simply say I'm not happy for a puppy of mine to go to a home where it won't have all the individual attention that puppies need. (After all, it doesn't sound as if these buyers told you the full story about wanting a puppy.) It's hard to turn people down but it is far better in the long run and you will feel better afterwards and be glad you found out BEFORE the puppy had gone.

Ditto.

The caravan does not bother me but there is no way I would sell a puppy to people that have so little understanding of a puppies needs as to get three at once.  As the home they are offering has changed so dramatically since you first vetted them I think they have in effect broken your agreement so I would say you are within your rights, ethically at least, to withdraw and give them back their deposit.  I doubt they would take it any further but I can't see any small claims court supporting them if they did because it would be common sense to anyone that this is plain daft and therefore clear that you had the puppies best interest at heart.

Im no expert, nor do i know anything about breeding,

But if you are unsure then go with your instincts.. As you know its a life that you will be giving them, and i think you would sleep sounder at night knowing your pup is in a home you are 100% sure about?
- By Patty [gb] Date 01.08.05 06:08 UTC
Hello there,

I took my puppy to a canal boat for the weekend and she has been to loads and loads of places, so I wouldn't be concerned about the caravan. However, 3 puppies?!?!?! That's a bit mad really. As owners we have to go with our instincts and sometimes cancel getting a puppy from a litter, and as a breeder you are more than entitled to go with your instinct too and choose where your puppies are going to. The fact that the circumstances have changed from the original contract means that it is invalid and therefore, I guess you could say that you have a policy of not selling a pup to a home where there are other pups. I know I wouldn't if I were a breeder. At least your mind will be at ease.

All the best,
Patty

HELLO EVERYONE !! THANKS FOR YOUR ADVICE. THE REASON IM CONCERNED ABOUT THE "CARAVAN " IS BECAUSE PUPS ARNT SUPPOSED TO GO OUT INTO THE BIG WIDE WORLD UNTIL INJECTIONS ARE COMPLETE. I THINK I AM GOING WITH MY INSTINCTS,I HAVNT SLEPT ALL NIGHT !!! THIS LITTLE GIRL MAY BE STAYING WITH ME !!! IF I CAN PERSUADE THE OH !!! LOL !!
- By LucyD [gb] Date 01.08.05 07:53 UTC
Yes, it's not so much the caravan, after all as long as she doesn't meet other dogs she would be fine anywhere. But 3 dogs at once is a bit odd. I was worried when we bought 2 puppies at once that the breeders wouldn't like it, but when I explained it was so they would have company they were ok. But 3 at once is dodgy, I would keep her at home!

ide go with your gut feeling, its never failed me yet. :) i personnally wouldnt sell a puppie to some1 who already has 2 puppies already.your pup will not get the atention and care it needs ! :( why would any1 in there right mind want 3 puppies at once? do you think they feel because theyve already placed a deposit on your girl there obliged to take her coz they dont want to let you down?
im sure theyle be ok coz theyve got the 2 pups already, just explane to them your concers im sure theyle understand! :)
- By spanishwaterdog [gb] Date 01.08.05 09:48 UTC
Return the deposit.  In my eyes there's only one reason why someone would buy 3 all at once !!
- By Fillis Date 01.08.05 12:06 UTC
Yes...I too was thinking that...instant puppy farming :(
- By Sarah Gorb [gb] Date 01.08.05 12:19 UTC
I saw my breeder yesterday and she said that in no circumstances would she home 2 of her pups to the same home and I guess that would be the same if the potential owners had another puppy. My girl is 16 weeks and is hard work, so I would tell them the truth and return the deposit.

I have been concerned reading your posts and even more so to hear the lady wasn't excited.  Aren't we all absolutely beside ourselves when a new pup arrives?  That alone would make me think twice and with the other pups it all sounds very odd.  You are absolutely right to go with your instincts.  Good luck.
- By Gill W [gb] Date 01.08.05 17:02 UTC
I agree with the others. I just can't understand why anyone would want to buy 3 puppies at the same time (other than the obvious :-( )  They may just be very very naive but I doubt it. There are some very convincing people out there who say all the right things etc but if you have a bad feeling about it, go with your instincts and hand back the deposit.  I know if it was my litter and I was even slightly doubtful, I would rather risk upsetting someone (they will get over it) than spend the next 12+ years wondering if she was ok :-(
- By Anndee [gb] Date 02.08.05 09:13 UTC
Hi Caron
whats the verdict? Have you let them know that you aren't happy about them having a puppy of yours yet?
I must agree with what everyone else has already said. Go with your gut feelings :)
Hope its all going well anyway.

Hi there,
I would have to go with all the posts in this thread and your instints, this really doesn't seem right to me.

Buying 3 pups in a very short space of time is very suspicous, I wouldn't do it and I don't know anyone that would, puppies are very hard work and take alot of time and loving care and patience ( toilet trainin and chewing the furniture lol )

3 pups is very odd I would be as you are very concerned, They may not be expierenced with puppies and don't know how much care 1 pup needs let alone 3.

The fact that they what to own 2 females and 1 Male is also something that I'd be extremely worried about, normally most people that buy more then one dog for pets would purchase pups of the same sex or buy 1 and wait until they are old enough to be spayed/neutured, unless they are intending to have puppies.

I wish you luck with finding a loving home for you pup, and with resolving your problem.
please let us know how it goes

good morning to you all. i tried to call the person ,but no answer, just remembered they have gone to caravan til the weekend . i have posted back deposit with a letter explaining why. i have also recieved an enquiry about this little girl from a lady who has experience of the breed ( she lost her dachsie after 16 yrs 6 months ago & is now ready to own one again ) the person who i took deposit from , has never had dachsies before !!! even more strange to want 3 babies at once !!! i will keep u all informed

- By misstyko [gb] Date 03.08.05 15:59 UTC
how do all you breeders choose new owners for your puppies? i would appreciate your advice as to questions you ask etc as comparing notes could be helpful ( & prevent the lucky escape above !!!

Mostly instinct and especially whether my other dogs like them! Have to admit my dogs do most of the work :D Its probably not much comfort at the moment, but we all make mistakes - thankfully you found out before your pup went home with them.
- By misstyko [gb] Date 13.08.05 13:43 UTC
just an update !! i sent a letter + deposit back to this couple , i told them to read this thread ! i havnt heard anything from them at all !!  i did find a wonderful family ,who have taken the little girl into their home & hearts, purely as a pet . i would like to thank you all for your support, and i am confident that the right decision was made

Only just seen this and am so gald you didn't let your pup go to these people, something is not right there, wondering if they are planning on starting a puppy farm as soon as the poor things come into season or if they are hoarders.
I thought I was mad having my 6 month old jack Russell and getting an 8 week old RottiexGSD, but I was excited and aware of the hard work involved, but there it stops my two dogs, my friends and companions.
Just looking forward to when they are both over a year LOL.
