When a woman saw me pulling into Pets at Home car park with my weimeraner (Remy, my fawn dobe!) :)
She wanted to know how I'd trained him so well, despite the fact he was trying his damndest to drag me in to drool over the rabbits - I think she must have watched me opening the boot to get him and Opi out, as they both sit and wait for me to clip leads on and to tell them they can jump out.
Anyhoo, she was saying that she was finding her weim very difficult to train - and she'd even had a trainer out to see him to help (to use her words) - she wanted to know if it was normal to have such an energetic dog. I asked how old he was - 10 months! So I said yes, fairly normal - I know a 5yr old weim that runs non-stop the second she's off the lead for the 2 or 3 hours' walk she gets a day :) I also said that whilst dobes are har dwork at times, I don't have a weim for a very good reason - that they are such intense dogs, needing a lot of training.
there's no point to this post, really - jsut thought I'd share :) in the end I said she should just be patient and consistent, and she should be okay - not beign exactly qualified as a trainer, I didn't want to say anything else! Especially as she'd seen my car first (with my grooming graphics), and decided I must know a lot about dogs. Go figure! I must admit, the first thing that crossed my mind was "impulse buy" - she seemed unaware of how much work weims can be in terms of the stimulation and input they need, she struck me as someone who thought they were nice so went out and got one without doing the necessary research. Oh well. If she's still got him at 10 months old, I dare say she'll stick with him, at least I hope so.
