Hi all, how do you go about claiming on your insurance? I'm with pet plan and was wondering if there's something wrong with your dog do you pay the fee to the vet then claim it back from the insurance or do the vets claim the fee for you off the insurance.
Warm regards Susan
Dont know about your insurer but i pay an excess of £50 then the vet claims the rest directly from my insurer
Hi again sorry forgot to just add i was recently told to double check my insurance to make sure its a lifetime one as some insurers only pay out till the dog is a certain age (few) mine was lifetime cover thank goodness
yes i've got to pay the first £80, i think mines covered for life also. Thanks happy girl anyway for the info. Who are you insured with?
Warm regards susan

think it depends on the vet really
we normally pay the lot and the insurance refunds us (minus the excess) but when we saw a specialist we signed a claim form and handed it to them who then sent it off to the insurance themselves

I pay up front, excess of £50, then give them the claim form to send off for me. The vets can claim off lloydstsb direct but it would cost me £6 to do this. Their insurance is for life but 12 month per condition :( or £3000 which ever comes first, and at the moment we are 3 months in with Maddies condition and all the tests done, and £1000 to go :( so will have to start saving soon as she has this for life!

We are insured with M&S they are no exess, It costs me £10.65 a month for my Tibetan Mastiff, she had a tumour removed costing £265, the vet filled in the form I paid the vet and the insurance paid me with 5 days. He did ask if I was alright for the cash.

I pay my vet the excess and they claim the rest from my insurance. But my friend who is with another vet but same insurance had to pay the vet and is now in the process of claiming his money back. It all depends on the vet.
Im with M&S, they are covered for life, and it only costs just over £10 a month. I give the claim form to my vets, they send it off, and get the money from the Insurance company. I tend not to pay my vets (been there years and years, and very good friends with our vet), they just claim straight from M&S. Also I have no excess, rather handy after my bitch nearly died, and the bill came to £600.00!!! My vets dealt with the whole thing.

I think it depends on how much your bill is. My vet is happy to deal direct with a large bill. A small one I settle with the vet and claim from the insurance company.
Is anyone with petplan then? what do they do? Whats m&s policy like? see with pet plan they pay three thousand pounds vets bills whats M&S vets fees?

Just in the process of claiming and our vet wants £££'s up front and then we claim later.
We were with Petplan, however we changed to M&S because Petplan are so expencive. M&S policy is actually better than Petplan and is about half the price. However it does depend on what level of cover you have with Petplan, we had Standard, I know there is also a Supreme and Economy.
Petplan Standard M&S
Vets Fees £6000.00 £7000.00
Boarding £500.00 £750.00
Theft £450.00 £1500.00
3rd Party £2,000,000 £2,000,000
Holiday Cancellation £500.00 £2500.00
Dont forget that the cover that M&S provide is just over £10.00 with more than two dogs, and this is with no excess, I cant remember how much Petplan is, but I know they have an excess of like £80.
Hi Harlistream, it is expensive i've got the Supreme Dog cover plan at £29.95
vet's fees unlimited: excess £80.00
Boarding kennels : 1,000
Death from injury : 800
Theft or straying : 800
Advertising reward: 1,000
Third part liability : 3,000,000 : excess 250.00
Death from illness : 800
Holiday cancel : 1,000
The only reason i got it is because the vet's fees are unlimited.

I am with pet plan for all three animals 2 cats and a dog and I have had to make claims for them all, I payed the first £50 and the vet makes a claim direct to pet plan for the rest.
John
I used to be with Pet Plan and I had to pay my vet and then send in the claim form although some vets will claim directly to them. You will of course need to pay the excess.

I am with Pet Plan for my dogs, my vet always wants the money up front, but an eye specialist we have to see with one of the dogs always claims direct.
The claim issue does not usually depend on which Insurance company you are with it depends on your vet, not all vets will allow you to just hand over a claim form, a lot of vets want paying and they will send the claim form off so you get your money back minus any excess.
