recommendations to remove long dog hair, clean coir flooring and oak floor boards, plus a few woollen rugs....

Ah, but that's because you haven't got a dog yet ;)  They're not all that they are cracked up to be (the vacuums that is, not the dogs :D )  Better to buy two other makes at half the price - will probably last 4 x longer and not be huge ugly, cumbersome, heavy things that knock lumps out of low furnishings, radiators etc etc etc and necessitate carrying scissors in your pocket to cut out all the hairs trapped round the roller bar ......

Yer Teri, I have a dyson animal and it was great for a few months and rapidly went down hill!!! I have heard from many people this exact same thing, damn powerfull but dont last long.... like most men :p

Agree, my Dyson Animal has been binned and I am NEVER wasting my money like that again!

Marianne Oh and edited to say to Daisy : I washed the filter at least once a week, let alone the once every 6 months they recommended....

I haven't had a problem with mine - it's suction power is still as good as new :) My previous Dyson was good, but this one is better (I still use the other for upstairs) :)

My Animal is coming up to 2 years old (see how long we have been PLANNING for a cat and a dog!!!) and it is going as good as it was the day we got it. It is on about 4 times a day, and as I said I've never cleaned the filters! I don't think I even know where they are!! LOL :D

I think I will have to nail it down though, else my hubbie is will sell it on E Bay! :rolleyes: :D

Well everytime my son eats something, even though he has his own table and chair with a plastic mat under it, it still needs hoovering! :rolleyes: And of course he has the trail of mess and destruction behind him everytime he moves, so the hoover is never far away! :D I have thought about sticking it to his back so he can clear up as he goes, but he won't let me do it for some reason ;) :P

Actually, he does vac his bedroom himself (when it's tidy enough!) but I've lost count of the times he's blocked it up with socks, paper etc instead of picking them up first. :-(  I refuse to let him loose with my new Dyson now so he has the old one all to himself  :-D

Try theor internet site it talks you through sorting out some probs. Also ring them. Dyson were great when we have had probs in the past and have also sorted them out no questions.

It does well with the cat! Her hair isn't overly long, but there is always enough to half fill the bucket, and I have never washed the filters!

A sweeping brush would sort that out

I've probbaly tried everything udner the sun, LOL. :D My Miele Dog & Cat worked for perhaps a year before we had to bin it. Never found one REALLY good, but really the Dyson was the worst, especially considering the cost.

I was rather miffed with Miele. They sell it as the Cat & Dog. Yet when the turbo brush broke, because the hair gets so stuck in it all the time, I emailed them. They said they would not honour the guarantee as I had more than 2 pets so it wasn't domestic use anymore, it was commercial!!

Ditto Marianne's comments on Miele - worked well for a while, but then got progressively more useless.

I've just bought a new vacuum cleaner - dithered about the Dyson, but people either love it or hate it, and knowing my luck I'd get a bad'un.

So, I've bought the 'Henry Hound' - on the basis that it's fairly cheap, definitely cheerful (cute face;))and the Henry range seems to be in use by most commercial cleaners, doing sterling service for years despite abuse every day.

Very pleased with it so far, although it sounds as if it's doing nothing at all, it seems very effective - bags are huge too, so won't need changing all that often.

I had an Electrolux bagless for about four years (pre-Dyson) before it passed away :(  :P  Before that one I had another Electrolux that was used and abused for a few years too - never developed anything wrong with it I couldn't fix myself (for about 4 years again).

The Animal Dyson seemed really powerful for the first, say, month but to be honest any new vacuum will probably seem that way when brand spanking new because we're comparing it to one that's had a tough life for a while ;)   I really don't like mine at all - although to be fair it is still working and is about a year old now (thinking of having it pts )

My sister has just bought the latest Electrolux bagless and is thrilled - she has mainly wooden floors (old, solid oak) and large wool rugs (oh, and the obligatory dog of course :D ) and having given it a test run I liked it too.   To be honest I looked at many before committing to the AD but I wish I'd gone with my gut instinct and bought another Electrolux.

LOl Teri - well it's a pretty popular opinion on here at least that Dyson could try a bit harder. For the price I'm surprised.

I use the Electrolux bagless vaccuum for pet hair. It is great on my bare wood floors downstairs, and my carpet upstairs, and has a handy (although it sounds absolutely lethal when it gets going!) pet hair attachment that is excellent on my sofa. My partner was so impressed with it he even offers to do the hoovering now, which is a miracle in itself. It cost us £69.69 from Tescos and our way of thinking was that for that price we can buy two and it would still work out cheaper than the Dyson animal, and my experience with Dyson is that they work great for about 6 months and then are just average (and then conk out and sit in the cupoboard under the stairs until we can face chucking it out). I have thrown out two dysons in the past 3 years that probably comes to about £600 in money terms, and they were rubbish, but my Eletrolux has coped with everything thrown at it!

i have had my dc02 for 6 years and my dco7 ( not animal) for 2 years and they are both still going strong. both had to cope with long dog hair from 2 dogs ( long haired german shepherd and a irish wolfhound X  sadly neither are with us anymore )
I shall be really testing them when our kai (malamute) starts blowing his coat, i have every faith my dyson will cope .... she says fingers crossed hopefully :D :D

God knows, but as soon as I get one, it overheats and conks out, or won;t start - I must be jinxed!

dyson animal is the no;1 for dog hair

I'm not a fan of bagless vacuum cleaners.  I prefer traditional bagged ones.  I find Panasonics best.  They've got great suction but just as important (for me, at least), they're very light & manouvreable.

Ive had my animal dyson for 3 and 1/2 years its still like new and used daily.I  have 3 albeit small dogs and there were 4 for the first 1 and 1/2 year.

I've recently bought the Electolux bagless from Tesco, and it certainly picks up an amazing amount of dog hair and dust. Emptying is easy, but the filter is made of pleated paper and is extremely difficult to clean - OH took it to work today and cleaned it on a machine there! Other than that, we're very pleased with it and it's certainly good value for money. :-)

You mean you all do your own vacuuming??? Surely that's what the OH is for?! :D :D It's so long since I clapped eyes on our vacuum cleaner I just had to ask the OH what make it is. He has confirmed it's a Dyson (the cylinder kind, don't know what model) and that it's pretty good. Why have an OH and vacuum yourself ;)

That would be my one gripe about it, is the filter - the Dyson spongy ones are easier to clean, but I prefer the price over a Dyson.

I have a Panasonic Icon 1500w, bagless. Its a good vac. but its a bit messy when emptying it out. It does the job though cleaning up easily after 2 tibetan terriers, one in full coat :)

On carpets nothing is as good as:-
A; a really stiff yard broom
B; a slicker

You save loads of money and yoy get a workout! :-)

I've just bought a Dyson Animal DC14 and it's amazing.  I was beginning to feel my house was never clean and tidy but now a quick sweep with the purple beast and it's sparkling!

We have a Dyson Animal too.  It's a good Hoover for picking up hair but........in 3 years, we've replaced the motor, cyclone, both filters, one filter housing and got through about 5 hoses.  It's still going but has started overheating lately in the hot weather and theres a crack in the wand.  So, I'll be ringing up dyson yet again.  :rolleyes:

I sound really old fashioned but i use a brush on wood floors (no hoover can beat it i swear) and we have yer bog standard dyson for rugs/furniture.

I totally agree with you. A good brush and a mop and my downstairs floors look better than with just a hoover - no matter what type of hoover!
