Hiya,
I'm not all that up on male dog anatomy so i was just wondering if i could ask you guys what may possible be a silly question to risk asking my vet if it is! I was just tickling my dogs belly and i noticed something i've not noticed before or what wasn't there before (hopefully the first) Just under his private parts (apologise for termology but everything else sounded wrong!) he has what looks like a second set of testicles under the skin at the base, hard round lumps either side, is this normal or are they some sort of growths?? They are obviously not his testicles however and it seems to me weird that i would have not noticed when hes lying on his back before as they are quite visable lumps. Feel free to laugh at my weird question but any advice would be muchly appreciated!!!!!!!!

They are his bulbous glands & quite normal They are part of the tie when dogs mate, they swell & should ensure the dog stays inside the bitch after the first two stages of mating

I see those and the rest of my boy's anatomy much too often but hadn't quite twigged what they were - he is frequently FAR too pleased to see me or to have his tummy tickled, if you know what I mean!!! Ugh!

I couldn't believe that friends of mine thought that it was abnormal on a dog that I had bred and who was at Crufts.  They told the owner that he'd better get him to be vets straight away as it could be something serious.  Still don't think that they believed me when I said it was normal!

I know exactly what you mean Lucy, my boy us also FAR too pleased sometimes to see me but at least it shows they love us :P :D

Dont worry friends of mine took their dog to the vet because they found a row of spots down his chest - nipples of course :p

That happened when I worked as a vet nurse. The vet simply asked the male owner "Don't YOU have nipples despite being male?" ROFL!
