Hi

Does anyone know when the above show is and good airlines for cheap flights to New York?  Got myself a place to stay so I'm all sorted there :d  Don't know how I'll be on a long flight though, any good therapies to stop me from being ill would also be gratefully received :d

HI

When I was in New York in February of this year, there were flags all along 34th street advertising the Westminster show which had been on the week before. I believe its 13th & 14th Feb next year.

As for cheap flights...not sure but I think Virgin Atlantic are usually quite reasonable (we fly from Dublin with Aer Lingus, usually) but I'm sure a quick trawl of the internet will turn up the best deals. The sooner you book, the cheaper you should be able to get it.

Ooh, I'm quite jealous....I love New York (shopper's paradise) but be warned...it is very likely to snow. I saw more snow there in a week this year than I have seen in my entire life!! But it was lovely all the same :)

Not sure about therapies as I'm not a nervous flier...just an impatient one!! I'm sure someone else will be able to advise better.

I'm not a nervous flyer as such, but I'm really funny re. missing proper meals etc. I become quite ill and it can ruin my life for a couple of days :d

Re. the weather this is why I'm querying whether to go then or not as I'm definitely not a cold weather person :d

I was in NY a few days before Westminster last year - it was very, very cold with the wind chill and we had snow on one day, driving rain the next (you need your thermal vests :D) Still had a great time but if you're not a cold weather person, you might not enjoy it too much ;-) For cheap flights, book well in advance - try all the individual airline websites as well as sites like Expedia, Opodo etc. We found Virgin Atlantic expensive but got a good deal with Air Canada in the end.

Was just thinking SWD, I was in NY in 2001 in february as well (Feb must be a good month for cheap flights as I always book for cheapest times possible as I like to keep as much cash as poss. for the bargains) and the weather then was good...very clear and a bit chilly kind of like a crisp spring day here. In fact, in the pics taken at top of Empire State Building and World Trade Centre, you would almost think it was summer as it's bright sunshine. So, i guess you could be lucky with the weather like we were in 2001 but I think snow is pretty much the norm for February, unfortunately.

A good site for sourcing cheap flights is www.ebookers.com.  Easy to use, and usually gives loads of choices.  Where you want to fly from usually makes a big difference, and remember that you dont just have to fly into JFK, you can often get cheaper flights to Newark.

We have just booked up for the Westminster next year, through a friend that sent a travel itinery for a travel group in the USA, Hotel shows, Judges Party on Saturday night and accomodation and sight seeing to the main attraction, the Holiday InnMatinique which is just accross the road from Macey's, Broadway Theater tickets.

And we are not taking the live in granddaughter with us 2 weeks of freedom,

The cheapest Airlines to NYC from London are Air India & Kuwait Airlines but these do not fly every day & having flown Air India between Dehli & Bangkok recently I wouldnt want to fly across the atlantic on them!

If comfort is yr prority I wouldnt fly Virgin their seats are very cramped & last time I flew with them to NYC I arrived at Heathrow to be told they didnt know where the aircraft due to fly me to Newark was & I had to sprint to the gate to get on the JFK flight only then to sit on board for 3 hours at the gate.  American Airlines have more leg space but terrible service.  Flying to Newark is generally cheaper than flying into JFK & from Newark airport you can catch a train which takes you to Penn Station which is under Madison Square Garden & opposite the Pennsylvannia Hotel(where most handlers/exhibitors stay).  From JFK you have to take a taxi, a bus  or a bus & then the subway.  Sometimes Air Canada has special deals from Heathrow via Canada into La Guardia which is a short ferry ride from Manhattan.

The flight isn't that long only about 7/8 hours try taking some rescue remedy or like I do because I fly alot all over the world on business a bottle of eucalyptus oil to dissinfect the air & lavender to help me sleep.

Weather wise NYC as with everywhere else these days is different yr by yr.  I've been to NYC at Westminster time with mini ice burgs by the statue of liberty & freezing freezing winds & other times it being mild & wet.  Though more often than not there is snow.  Taxis are cheap so you don't really need to spend any time outdoors - though a walk in the snow in Central Park is worth it.

http://www.westminsterkennelclub.org/2006/show/info.html  Has all the info of next yrs show.

If you want to do some of the doggy social events like the Take the lead party or Dinner & Theatre events then I would book now the best place to get info for these is through http://www.dognews.com & contact them.

Westminster is certainly an experience even more so if you go to some of the social events, its certainly a world away from crufts.
