- By kinla [in] Date 27.07.05 04:14 UTC
1} i dont know whats happening to him .. he's only a pup and he usualy sits and pees but now he sitting         alright but he squirts pee and does it in many places instead of one place like before.

2} he was bitten by our neighbours dog about a month ago. he has stomach problems very frequently.            some mucus and loose stools also. we have been told by the vet to give him " gramoglyll " medicine evry time mucus     is  spotted in stools.

3} he eats cement, plastics , paper , cloth and cardboard.  most of the day he's with the muzzle i know its       cruel but its for his own good. how can i stop this absurd behaviour??

4} he bites like hell.. i know he's a working dog and they play bite .. but he's ruined the shape of my hands.       how on earth can i make it stop or reduce?

5} i am worried about his legs . since our floor is slippery  everyone says his legs may deform i doubt  what has been  feared of has happened. his legs seem to turn before he takes his step. and sometimes he is a bit wobbly too

i would appreciate any reply of any sort of help.  please help me with my mad dog in such a tight situation
take him to the vet?? -- of course we do that !! but still..

oh!! -- he also vomits every thing out of his stomach when he travels in the car or to say.. when he travels at all.

thank you for having the patience to read all this

Hi Kinla! Lots of questions! How old is he (you say 'just a pup' but how old is that)? If he's still squatting to pee I'd guess he's under 6 months, but if he's starting to produce smaller amounts of wee more often he's approaching adolescence.

You say he's chewing a lot of inappropriate items. What chew toys has he got that he's allowed to chew? Chewing is a vital part of a dog's development, and they do grow out of it. To prevent destructive chewing it's inadvisable to use a muzzle, especially on a pup. Far better to keep him somewhere safe when you can't be watching him - a puppy pen, for instance.

All puppies play bite, not just working dogs. This article should be helpful.

Slippery floors can be a problem with many puppies. Can you put rugs or similar down until he's grown?

Also travel sickness is very common, especially in puppies. Many grow out of it naturally; others can be helped over it sooner if the owner spends several weeks accustoming the dog to the vehicle; first by just feeding the dog in the car, then feeding in the car with the engine on; then sitting in the car with the pup for 10 minutes or so but not going anywhere. Then moving the car a few feet then getting out again - all gradually building towards a short trip to a favourite walking place. Covering the dog's travel crate so he can't see out can also help.

Just to add to JG's reply, if it was my dog I would not be at all surprised by the upset stomach considering what he is eating! The simple answer is to make sure there IS no cement or plastic or cardboard or cloth where he can get to it... Next thing to do: find a good training class so you can get some help.

Just like a child, a puppy will investigate unfamiliar objects, but when they no longer hold an interest for him, he will move on - make sure the items you are offering him are appropriate - not too hard, not too small or too big, but most importantly, don't ignore him when he starts investigating it, interact with him, tell him he's clever, play with him with it.......  Make them matter to him.......

I suspect that the 'forbidden' things are more important to him because when he chews them, he gets  a reaction from you......

Kinla please don't take this the wrong way but you sound very inexperienced (as we all were once). Can I suggest you find a good training club to help with your problems and socialising you pup. If you phone your vet they can often recommend a decent one or contact the kennel club as they have a list of qualified dog trainers. What area are you in? Someone on here maybe able to point you in the right direction. :)

All of these problems seem normal to me except the mucus stuff which is already being treated and the wobbly leg. What breed is she, how old?

sorry didn't see he was 3 months , he's still a puppy and everyone will tell you puppys chew EVERYTHING! My 2nd golden Max who is now 15 weeks chews everything (tries at leash) but we hold his muzzzle gently , say no then give him his chew toy. Have you gotten any interesting chew toys for him? If he's food motivated then a Kong would work perfectly.
