We are thinking of buying in another dog,a staffie we have previously kept and bred litters for the last 15 years, bred for the last 8-9 years with the exception of not breeding for the last 3 years.
So i decided to have a look on the puppy sales list from the kennel club, found a good few breeders.
There was one litter that said blues so i decided to ring and ask how much they were selling them for i had the shock of my life when she said £1000.
There is no way i would pay more than what the good show breeders are asking with good bloodlines and health screening. The average price of a staffie pup is around £400-500 and they are ripping people off just because of the colour,i am really annoyed over it!
Would any of you guys pay over the top purly because of colour? Personally i think confirmation good bloodlines etc are what you look for in parents of pups and also in pups as far as you can tell.
Sorry but i think breeders like this that are purly money orinated do alot of damage to certain breeds!

its wrong but wile people are wiling to pay a silly price for a blue staffie pup then the breeders will charge silly prices for blue pups. :(they are gorgeous but i like yourself would not pay anymore for a staffie pup than £500 be it a blue pup or show quality! :)
some breeders do sell blue pups for average prices you just have to keep looking!

The sad thing is that most blue staffs are of poor quality being bred purely for colour without regard to conformation or health. Unfortunately some people are gullible enough to think that because they are advertised as 'rare' it makes them worth more money and other money grabbing idiots think that if they buy a blue staff at £1000 and then breed it they will get blue puppies which they can sell at £1000 each...very sad

Hi all,

Been a while...

This issue boils down to the simple laws of supply and demand. The higher price reflects a sway in fashions and tastes, just like many other products. I know we shouldn't look at dogs as products and I certainly do not. However, we can safely say that there are plenty of dog owners whose decisions can be swayed by fashions and trends. I feel it is important to note that making fashion/trend a part of your decision process is something quite innocent, especially for the virgin dog owner.
Of course is important to bear the health and welfare of the breed in mind; and obviously this is the main issue here. With regard to that I suppose we can just look back to what has happened many times before. A time will come when the media knee jerk reaction to staffordshire lines will disolve and attention will be diverted to another infamous breed. During this break the good lines survive and the swelled population of poorly bred dogs reduces in numbers. I know it sounds awful but this model is exists in business; and since we are talking of a comodity which is sold for money, dog breeding will always partner this naturally 'human' drive - just so long as dogs are popular.

...and whilst my dog just lets out a little gas in my office I wonder...?

Thanks for reading my rant, replies welcome (sigh!  -  only joking)

people like blues - they pay more for them, what can you do except try and educate people that they dont have to pay more to get a nice dog?

Sally - what you have posted on here is a big contradiction to what you have posted on other forums, you might want to think about having one "story" and sticking to it instead of changing your tune to suit the occasion

Other people have been posting in my name unfortunatly,we were considering another staffie but after long disscusions with our family kids included especially the eldest one we are thinking of a westie pup,my eldest son was very badly attacked by a bull breed and said he likes the stafford breed but doesn't want another one, personally i love the stafford and have bred a few litters 3 in total, but as in any breed you need to be very careful with bad breeders, and even those with knowlege at shows i have found to be very unhelpful and i was actually told by a championship judge at 3 days old his pups were showing great show potenial, yeah right they can't walk there eyes are still closed and they showed great potenial,so there are even judges that should know better trying to pull the wool over peoples eyes.
