Dime has a badly split back nail which is exposing the quick. Not bothering her but the vet says nail has to be removed tomorrow. Has anyones dog had this done and did it heal up ok?
Thanks in anticipation

one of mine had 2 nails removed last year due to them breaking after catching them on a woolly doormat.......she was walking fine the next day with no problems.

Kayla is constantly riving around like a loony and has split a nail or 2 in the process, I usually trim away as much of the 'excess' nail as poss then put on some styptic powder which stops the bleeding(if there is still any that is!) In time the nail grows out and is fine but it would depend on how far the nail has split up and whether it has become infected or is cauising the dog alot of pan/discomfort.
As has been said, dogs can manage perfectly well without the nail so try not to worry :)

One of mine had a nail removed (under GA of course) in an attempt to cure a nailbed infection. The nail grew back fine (his foot was bandaged for a few days) but the infection lingered, so he had to have the entire toe removed.

Thanks
I can see that the nail does need to come off so fingers crossed all will be well for her.
