My little Rosie is not very well, she is snorting and grunting as if her nose is blocked and then she is coughing as though she has phlem on her chest.

i've took her to the Vet last Friday and the vet said she can find nothing wrong with her, she doesnt have Kennel cough a long soft palate although she gave her two antibiotic jabs.

I asked the vet if she could have a cold because looking at her thats what you would think and she responded that dogs dont get colds ?????

I've started dosing her with Children Benilyn and just leaving her too sleep, she is eating and drinking normally.
I was advised that it could be hayfever but one of my other dogs is now coming down with the same symptoms.

The only recent change is we have changed their food from Fish and Brown to Lamb and Rice because the pet shop ordered the wrong one????

Any advise would be appreciated, Im taking her back to the vet tomorrow but I just dont feel very confident with vets opinion

Copper had this and I agree it looked as if he had a very bad cold, he was coughing and sneezing and his nose kept running.  I took him to the vet and they said it could be kennel cough and tried to sell me some antibiotics and anti-coughing tablets.  But on previous experience, these don't work on Cops so I just did as you did and gave him Benylin.  I also gave him a quarter of a co-codomol (previous emergency vets advice) and he was absolutely fine in a couple of days.  I wouldn't worry too much but don't spend too much at the vets - antibiotics and anti-inflammatories are their usual way to get me to part with my money!

My 8mth old puppy is showing these symptoms at the moment as well and Im really concerned,She had watery discharge from her nose but today its white mucus but is also eating and drinking. She is on anti-biotics and a dose of cough mixture but its awful to see. However she was absolutely fine yesterday and showed no symptoms at all.The day before that she too seemed as if her nose was blocked and seemed very subdued.

Must be a lot of it going about, my two have colds aswell! The youngest one had a runny nose and they both coughed and sneezed. It lasted about 3 maybe 4 days. Both have had KC vacc last Dec, but they've stopped now so I dont' think it was anything serious. I was also told to try Benylin :)

Hi Blondiflops, is Rosie a staffy?  Mine has started doing this again over the last few days.  Usually I can control it by not giving her any cheese or dairy products as they seem to set her off.  Generally mine tends to have an upset stomach at the same time (maybe to do with swallowing the snot as she doesn't blow her nose or spit it out!).  None of the many vets we saw knew what it was and it eventually cleared up on its own.  We were given huge doses of steroids and wormers at the time but it seemed to clear up a while after this.  Sorry I can't be of any help but it didn't do my pup any long term harm if thats any consolation to you.
