My 4 year old lab is having a false pregnancy, she's producing oodles of milk, being precious and whingy, and very restless. Whilst it doesn't bother me, I feel for her and my question is: (1) will this now keep happening after every season and (2) is spaying now a good option.

I'm sorry to say the answer to both questions is probably yes. But have a word with the vet, the milk can be dried up and I think their are hormone tablets that will help but in my experence once they have had a full blown pseudo they continue to do so although not always so bad. Jackie H

Yes, jackie is right. To relieve her symptoms this time, you could consider homeopathic treatment, if you contact www. ainsworths.com (or is it co.uk?) they can prescribe a treatment for her that will help her phantom. It really does work and is inexpensive. I am not a fan of routine spaying but in this case it may be wise, though homeopathy may be able to prevent phantoms too, if you are worried about her having surgery.

Hi,

My Lab is the same and I have found Dorwest herbs do a tablet to lesson the symptoms/stop the pseudo pregnancy, its Rasberry Leaf which is also a birthing aid but fed in larger a quantity and for longer period of time its meant to help, I am 2.5 weeks into it at the moment and will let you know if it works.
