I'm having problems finding an Italian Greyhound or Whippet for sale , need the dog to get on with cats, does anyone know where I can find a breeder in my area (Essex) ??
I tried the breeder list on here but with no luck.
Also does anyone know if the above breeds will bark if they feel there is an intruder?
Also does anyone know of any other breed of dog what will get on well with cats , I would like a dog what can protect if possible and is not to big.
It needs to get on with 2 Devon rexs and the male Devon rex can be bossy with the female Devon rex and he often bites her neck after chasing her around the room , would this be a problem?
Thanks
Hi,
I have a whippet (did have 2 but lost his brother last november). Mine arn't big barkers, he is are very quiet in the house, only barking on the odd occasion. I'm sure this is just his nature not necessarily a whippet thing!
As for cats, we have one and they do get ok but I wouldn't trust him 100% with her, I find she is ok as long as she doesn't run! which being an old cat she doesn't do very often. I think in your case with 2 running and playing might be a recipe for disaster.
Can't help you with IG's as I have no experience with that breed.
Good Luck in your search.
Hi
I have a 1 year old male whippet, a 4 year old Maine Coon cat and a 16 year old moggy. The cats are definitely in charge in our house although this may be due to the fact that when we first got Cashie the cats were three times his size.
He doesn't bark when the doorbell rings or when people come in. If we were to have a burglar, I think Cashie would probably run around in excitement then roll onto his back waving his legs in the air, begging to have his tummy rubbed. If you're looking for a guard dog then a whippet is not the way to go! :)
However IMHO they are wonderful pets, very loyal, loving, relatively easy to train and (usually) fairly obedient. We wouldn't be without him.
