Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / Attacking water bowl............HELP!
- By poppynurse [gb] Date 25.07.05 09:47 UTC
My six month old SBT has developed some strange behaviour..........
she only has to see a stainless steel water bowl and she's off....she barks like mad at it then rags it for ages........all my bowls are stainless steel so I'm worried that she's depriving the others (and herself) of a drink.....obviously I keep checking but it's got to the point where I'm going mad!!!!!!! Any ideas.......

It could be that she is seeing her reflection in it.  Swap it for a plastic one for now and see if that makes a difference.

use a ceramic one she'll probably just chew the plastic one!!

Both my bc's did this when they were young. I definately think it was a reflection thing either them or how the light caught things. They were the same with the patio doors. Would jump around growling and barking  at the item.
I did swap to a ceramic water dish which I still use. Went back to stainless food dishes after they grew out of it.
So don't worry, just a phase.

my dog upsets his water bowl always .. he spills the water and then lies down on it.. if he doesnt want to lie down on it then he just spills it and goes .. thus we never keep the water bowl in his reach. i know he'll feel thristy but we just let him drink and then keep it back out of reach.
i dont know how to stop his dumb behaviours..

Put a bucket in a tyre, it works for horses and dogs..........

Believe it or not, I bought my dog a paddling pool and this stopped him digging in his bowl, guess he thought it was boring compared to the pool :p I also have a bowl on a stand now, so he couldnt do it now if he wanted.....lol, he probably could actually, picturing it now :D

LOL Sally, my kitten sits on the back of the sofa, and she can see her reflection in the glass doors that go to the dinning room, it never used to bother her too much until she started going out, and the other cats started hissing and spitting at her, now she attacks the glass doors and tries to hiss and spit at them :D It is very funny to watch her! :D
