Hi, I've discovered that I've got problems with 'walking dandruff' or Cheyletiella in my gang, including a litter of seven week old puppies. I just wondered if anyone had any experience with these little pests and how they got rid of them, before I go off to the vets on Monday to see what they recommend! I'm worried about using chemicals on my babies, but, obviously, I need to get rid of them!

Think you can bath or use a spray but not sure what but it will have to be a chemical to get shot of them. Itchy things aren't they, you do know to keep your hounds away from other dogs don't you. Do you have foxes or rabbits? my sisters dogs had them and they could only have come from wildlife we assume foxes. Hope you can clear it soon as you will not be able to let the pups go, not good for you and very sad for their new owners. Not been much help have I, sorry. Jackie H

i had this about 10-12 years ago---it was treat by alugan by dipping each dog , ---alugan is no longer available but you can get aludex, from your vet, again a dip, i THINK i read frontline deals with it, and also that its safe to use on your babies, but check it out first---

Yes Frontline is effective against this pesky mite - we used it a few years ago on a litter of pups after we had an invasion of rabbits in our paddock :-) Another old fashioned remedy which is effective is Benzyl Benzoate emulsion which you can get from most chemists - you can dilute it & apply direct to the skin (test for sensitivity first!) or mix a little with some ordinary shampoo & bath the dog/puppy as normal.

We also used frontline to get rid of the little buggers, on our dogs and puppies it works very well.
