Could you help me please,
We have two 1/2 yr old dogue. VERY dearly loved.
He is on the small side with a light coloured coat but is VERY often sick - makes himself sick in the garden, eats grass, lethargic. The Vet has done blood tests etc - he may(?) have a reaction to red meat but we almost always give him chicken. We do not give him titbits to eat.
This is then rectified by a visit to the Vets and then prob. two months later it happens again.
Is this common in this breed?
Please help we are at our wits end trying to find out what is causing this problem.
Many thanks

Hi Guest,

recurring sickness is not normal for any breed of dog (or species for that matter).  More Qs than As I'm afraid but what treatment from your vet cleared the problem?  ( i.e. Was it diet related, medicine etc ) Did your vet include an EPI test (called TLI) in the blood panel?  If so and this was clear, I'd ask for a re-test, have a faeces sample done to rule out parasitic infections and if these fail to disclose a cause enquire about an ACTH stim test (still bloods, but done separately) for Addisons.

There are a host of reasons why your dog is continually sick but thankfully many can be ruled out without invasive procedures.  The best thing to do is press your vet to investigate the matter fully and if he/she can't come up with anything conclusive ask for specialist referral.  Good luck, Teri :)

Personally the first thing that I would try is a little live yougart, it may just be that his gut bacteria need a bit of help.
