I am starting a new job this afternoon and am panicking rapidly because I don't posess a suit in my wardrobe!!!!
It is a secretarial position in a local company but I am not sure what they wear and how smart I have to be.
I know in the city and central London most people wear suits but is this the same for a local job?
Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I only have 1.5 hours to make a decision and am so nervous!

gosh that was quick thanks so much.  Ok problem... I have black trousers but they make me look like a spider and don't suit me and I don't have a white shirt!!!!!!!!!!can you believe it.  I am going to have to do some office shopping but I wanted to wait to see if I like the job first!

could i wear oatmeal colour trousers (they are nice) and a light blue shirt?  I wore that for my interview last week, can I wear the same again today or will they think I am not clean or something?

Just smart trousers and tidy top then.  I wish I looked like a spider - I look more like a slug!  Be grateful.......:o

val that is funny lol, I am sure you don't look like a slug and slugs have beautiful skin I often wonder if they use some sort of moisturiser!

we have a casual dress code in our office so can get away with jeans etc.  Before the casual thing came in though I used to wear either a shirt with trousers or a smart jumper with trousers - I only own one suit, strictly for funerals and job interviews only :)

I've seen that too ClaireyS, but they'd mention that at an interview, wouldn't they??????

Im sure they would tell you if it was casual dress :)  Im sure trousers and a smart jumper / shirt would be fine though :)

Why not wear a smart shirt and trousers, as others have said, but take a cardy or jumper with you, then if it is casual, the cardy will bring down the tone of smartness!! :D You might melt away if they have the heating on, but at least you will fit in!! :D
