Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / What can puppy chew on?

Robbie is 8 weeks and has decided to chew the legs on my table and chairs. I remove him and tell him firmly no he has a few toys but is there anything tasty for him to chew. He tried to take Baileys pigs ear ( bailey not amused) now buried in garden. Also do the sprays work to deter them from chewing furniture?

We used bitter apple with my mother-in-laws last puppy when the puppy started to chew on chair legs. She stopped immediately, and we just started providing her with a selection of chews that we alternated for variety.

I was told by someone who had a staffie pup that they used vics vapour rub, have tried it with my dog when she decides to chew corner of leather suite, she only has to see lid come off and she can smell it and changes her mind, just smear it very thinly they dont seem to like the smell at all,i also think someone on here posted this tip a while back.

On the rare occasion I had a dog chew I used Bitter Aloes liquid from the chemist painted on the chewable stuff

As to what a puppy can have to chew a nice meaty bone for recreation purposes & depending on what you are feeding him/her chicken wings etc if you feed raw, carrots, etc

My granddad swore by giving a chewy puppy(he had boxers)a piece of apple wood as he said the wood was so sweet that if the puppy went to chew any other wood it wouldn't taste as good as the apple wood :)

Hi,
I find trial and error in what puppy likes, I have hide knott bones,
meat filled bones, or [Fresh breath rawhide chews poundland has them.]
My pup loves all of them and has stopped at the moment chewing the legs
on the chairs in the veranda.
Regards
Denese

My friend puts the plastic piping from b@Q over her chair and table legs for a few weeks while pup goes through this chewing stage  << it works too>> cheaper than new furniture!!!
The bitter taste spray works for some dogs not for others I find if I spray it while they are standing over you watching then they hate the smell in the air which also helps as a deterrant as they associate that smell in that area.
