In half an hour I am expected at my best friends 30th birthday/engagement party. I am still in my bath robe with hair still in towel and I so don't want to go!

I hate parties, especially ones where there are going to be ppl you haven't seen for ages and don't want to see again. Everyone there will be all glam and sexy and I look like a hippo in a creased dog hair covered piece of material, don't know which one but it doesn't matter they all look creased and dog hair covered. I'll get all the same old looks (she could have made an effort, she's put on so much weight) and questions (so, how are the dogs? Is your mum ok?)

I have only got her a CD for her birthday and thought I had wrapping paper, which I have but its covered in Christmas Trees.

HELP!
- By Vicki [gb] Date 23.07.05 18:37 UTC
I hate doing stuff that I don't want to do, so a few years ago I decided not to anymore.  My advice to you is say you're sick, put the CD you bought your friend on the player, and get the wine out - stay in the bathrobe - life's too short to do cr*p you really don't want to....
- By LJS Date 23.07.05 19:01 UTC
Vicki I like your attitude ;) :D

I hate parties too, so you have my sympathy. Have you any tissue paper you could wrap the CD in?
- By colliesrus [gb] Date 23.07.05 18:47 UTC
No, no tissue paper, the Xmas paper will have to do.

Normally I don't do things I don't want to do as i am of the same thinking of you. ;) However, on this occassion it would be really selfish. She is my best and oldest friend and it would really upset her if I didn't go. Plus we spoke earlier today so she wouldn't believe I was suddenly too ill to go. She also knows faking illness is my best excuse for geting out of things.

I was supposed to be going with my mum but she couldn't change her shift so I have to go alone. :(

15 minutes to go and still no where near ready. Exactly how late can you be to be 'cool late' anyway?
- By ice_queen Date 23.07.05 18:42 UTC
Invest in a sticky roly hair removing for cloths thingy!  they are excellent at removing dog hair.

Your main problem is you are not confident. :(  If you go with a positive attitude about yourself you will be sexy! :) (trust me I'm a 17 year old teenager :D )  Who cares about your size.  Pick out a nice outfit, give it a good shake and an iron.  Put your face on then put dress on.  tell yourself you are sexy, if you want to then keep away from mirrors. (what I do! :D )

For paper, have you got any tissue paper?  If not stop off on way and wrap in the car! :D easy!

Chin up!  You are sexy!  Everyone is!

Oh I do sympathise :) I am due to go to my mum's 70th Bday party tomorrow with 40 people most of them family
I also have been sitting here thinking blimey I haven't got any wrapping paper for her present

I suppose I could wander down to the shop but just can't tear myself away from a lovely glass of wine :D

I'm going to my aunt's 100th birthday party tomorrow :) I'm dreading it really as she has dementia and sometimes gets very upset and aggressive - which is not what you want to happen on her special day :( I'm just hoping that it won't all be too much for her :(

OK, have found a pair of trousers which not only fit, but are funny material which dont require ironing (I couldn't find the iron, never use it so dont know where it lives) and have been stashed away so long they are hair free and found a nice top which I couldn't fit in my drawers so kept in mums wardrobe. Have also straightened half my hair, put eyeballs in (c. lenses) and done teeth.

Still need to get dressed, finish hair, wrap present, put make up on, take it off again cos it looks silly, and here I am talking to you lot! When I am late I'll blame you. Sorry guys couldn't get off the computer, they just wouldn't stop talking...

D'ya reakon it'll work? ;) :D
- By Lara Date 23.07.05 19:32 UTC
It's the company that counts and your friend wants you there.  Just buy a little gift bag on the way to drop the CD in and then you won't have to worry about wrapping it.  You don't have to stay long!
You might even enjoy it :)
- By colliesrus [gb] Date 23.07.05 19:36 UTC
This is true Lara. What does everyone else matter? I have finished my hair, at last, it almost looks tidy! Good idea about the gift bag, she knows I hate wrapping anything up so that would be ok. Can't stay long anyway, I've got to leave for an agility show at 6 in the morning! :D

Thanks for that. :)
- By Natalie1212 Date 23.07.05 19:44 UTC
I always find that I never want to go until I get there, then 'party mode' kicks in, and then I don't want to go home! :D

Don't worry about what people say, I am sure at least one of them have put weight on/had a stupid hair cut/been arrested/remember the last time they saw you, when they were drunk, and did something unmentionable! Just remember to enjoy yourself, and make sure you have enough confidence to fill the room! :D
- By colliesrus [gb] Date 23.07.05 19:52 UTC
I'm ready! Complete with earrings and necklace she bought me for my 30th last year and expensive perfume from ex. I've even put some make up on and left it there.

See you later CD, thanks for your help.

Oh, need to write her card.

TTFN :)

How did it go?

Like you I hate going to parties too!
- By Brainless [gb] Date 24.07.05 10:16 UTC
Well it was either awful or she is hung over.

Oh yes she was leaving early for an Agility show, so we have to wonder until this evening.

Think I need to get a life :D
- By lucyandmeg [gb] Date 24.07.05 14:19 UTC
I'm a bit like that natalie. I always dread going, but once i'm there i don't want to come home. I do hate going out when i know that i've got to be up early in the morning though!
- By colliesrus [gb] Date 24.07.05 16:14 UTC

>Think I need to get a life

LOL You're not the only one! In fact I didn't get in till 1am and would have posted but Mum was asleep and I was a bit drunk so I would have woken her up, dainty little heffalump that I am.

The party actually went really well, although I was an hour late by the time I got myself organised. I found a gift bag from a present I was given on Friday from a parent so put her pressies in that along with a couple of the things I was given which I didn't want! A very old (long, not ancient) friend was there so I spent most of the evening chatting to her.

I am going to be Maid of Honor at the wedding. (My first reaction; 'You're going to put me in a dress aren't you?) :p There was also a guy who was very cute, who it turns out, is going to be the Best Man. Well, it's my duty isn't it? Maid of Honor=Best Man. ;) Why wait a year till the actual wedding? :D

Still got up at the crack of dawn for the show and managed to get 5th place in one of our classes. Also got very wet.

Thanks for your help, it got me through. I still surprise myself sometimes, a year ago I had trouble going to tescos, now I go to birthday/engagement parties and flash at the Best Man. But that's another story. :p

Had a lovely party at Auntie's nursing home :) The staff had clubbed together and bought her a complete new outfit - suit, shoes and hat (she looked as though she was going to a wedding :D ) She had her card from the Queen and a telegram from David Blunkett. There were balloons, banners and her chair was dressed like a throne. There were about 150 people there - mostly residents, but a lot of relatives and my family and old friends of my aunt. There was a singer who performed most of the afternoon - Auntie seemed to like him and was jigging away to the music. There was a buffet - sandwiches, cake etc and curry :D (The home is owned and staffed by Indians - they are so good to all the residents) The champagne came out and of course a lot of photos were taken :)

A lovely time was had by all - even Auntie seemed to enjoy it :)

Glad that you had a good time at your mum's. Lucy :)

So anyway, that aside, what's the low-down on flashing the BM?   Gorey details please - don't be shy ;)

>So anyway, that aside, what's the low-down on flashing the BM?   Gorey details please - don't be shy

It was really innocent, honest! My friend gave me her new email address and mobile number and I didn't have any pockets so I stuffed them down my bra, as you do. Only it was quite a low cut top so I kind of revealed more than was intended. I didn't think anyone was watching but then saw his eye line was nowhere near my face. :D

It's very sad really, he was on holiday 4 yrs ago in Turkey and some a**hole pushed him down a flight of stairs and he's been in a wheelchair since. He's an amazing person, most ppl who were in their 30's when that happened would crack up but he's just got on with life as best he can and is still laughing. I told another friend about him and she was horified I was even thinking he was good looking (which he is) when he is in a wheelchair. I hadn't even thought like that TBH, I was so amazed by how nice he is I didn't even think along those lines. Is it weird to like someone who is in a wheelchair? Even my mum said, you can't go out with him can you?
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 25.07.05 13:47 UTC

>Is it weird to like someone who is in a wheelchair?

No, not at all - wheelchairs don't turn ordinary people into monsters to be shunned. What a strange attitude your friend has. :( People in wheelchairs fall in love and get married just as much as people who can walk. I bet Tanni Grey's pleased that the bloke she married has more sense than that. I guess her daughter's fairly pleased as well!
- By Teri Date 25.07.05 13:59 UTC
I'd hoped for more sleaze personally :D

He sounds like a great guy - what's the difference he's in a wheelchair?  Means you can whisk him away quickly from any competition - it's a bonus :)  Seriously it's such a shame for anyone, but particularly a younger person, to be injured and end up disabled in some way but true life and real love ain't like the movies it's about what a person is like to get on with and how you both enjoy each others company.  If you like him as a person - go for it!   Teri :)
- By colliesrus [gb] Date 26.07.05 14:39 UTC

>I'd hoped for more sleaze personally

You would!

No we haven't got a date yet, I'd only met him for about 2 minutes, I don't work that fast! I think my friend (who is beside herself: her best friend and her fiances best friend. If she even mentions double weddings I'll throttle her) is planning on inviting us to dinner at the same time so we can officially meet before the wedding and she is rubbing her hands together in glee.

I am glad you all thought the same as me, I still can't work out the reaction from other ppl. I confronted Mum about it and she said it doesn't bother her, she was more surprised at my reaction than bothered herself. She worked in a special needs school throughout my childhood and some of my best friends were not only physically but mentally disabled/challenged/whatever the pc word is for it now. So I'm not sure why it should surprise her. My first boyf (when I was about 9!) was Downs. He was a good laugh too.

Anyway, from the look on his face when I flashed a bit of boob the important parts work OK! ;) :D

BTW got pups kc reg. name back yesterday, he is now 'Narani Wysh Aponna Star' Thanks to those who shared ideas on the subject. :)

>No we haven't got a date yet, I'd only met him for about 2 minutes, I don't work that fast!

You'd be amazed what you can do in 2 minutes - particularly with a captive audience (slip the brakes on  :D )   Anyway, you've already had him admiring your assets - seems you should be the one giving out the advice!  Hope the dinner party works to plan (you've gotta have a "cunning plan" )

Glad your little furry person got one of the names you preferred - sounds really good.  Teri :)
- By colliesrus [gb] Date 26.07.05 17:58 UTC

>slip the brakes on

LOL :D I have several 'cunning plans' which are quite simple.

1) Friend and fiance have promised not to say anything so neither of us will feel self conscious or embarrassed.
2) I wear something to reveal assets (they are the only ones I have so I would be a fool not to use them).
3) Get drunk. (Anyone who disagrees, did you learn nothing as a teenager?)
4) If nothing sparks, retire gracefully (well as gracefully as you can inebriated with assets falling out) and have something to talk about at actual wedding next year.
5) If something does spark get drunker and let nature (and alcohol) take it's course.

What d'ya think? ;)

Thats me. ;) Just one question...Do you think he'll still be able to...? And if so, how? Now I've got the giggles, alcohol and imagination have got the better of me.

I've got my aunts 100th b'day party on the 13th August and I will either be:

1. In hospital (not an option - mum will kill me)
2. Even more huge than now - trying to look glamorous with the biggest belly in the world (not an option)
3. Recovering from a C-Section (not an option - can't look fabulous hobbling around infront of 100 relatives I don't know)
4. Recovering from giving birth to a 9lb plus baby (not an option - see no3)

:)

colliesrus,

Did you get a date then or are you going to wait until the wedding?

Being in a wheel chair makes absolutely no difference, I'd crack onto him! hee hee go on go on go on :D
- By spanishwaterdog [gb] Date 25.07.05 14:45 UTC
Being in a wheel chair definitely should make no difference.  I've been out with two guys over the years with severe disabilities and they were the nicest kindest most fun loving guys ever.  WHo gives a **** what other people think.  I'm actually lucky as my parents don't care less what race, disability etc. the person is that I go out with as long as he treats me right, luckily so far they always have.  Although I've not dated too many men have to say every single one, well maybe except two :d have been brilliant guys.

My first boyfriend was disabled though I have to admit I didn't notice anything until it was pointed out to me, although friends did and if I had the time all over again must admit that I wish that I'd made more of it than I did (the relationship that is :d ), but I was only young.  He was the best person I've ever been out with just one truly wonderful person who everybody adores.
- By ShaynLola Date 25.07.05 14:53 UTC
Who cares about the wheelchair?? If you like him, get in there quick and snap him up before someone else beats you to it. Truly good men are bl**dy hard to find so if you think he might be one of them, don't miss your opportunity :)
- By Lara Date 26.07.05 17:46 UTC
I agree with not worrying about what other people think.  If he sounds nice then go for it :D  Disabilities could happen to any one of us at any time.  Didn't know if I'd be alright after I had my spinal surgery
You get to park closer to the shops as well ;) :D
- By Bluebell [gb] Date 25.07.05 16:26 UTC
LOL and I was worried about my mums 75th next month - she says she wants NO FUSS - translated as: I just wnat to feel like the most special person in the world :)
- By colliesrus [gb] Date 03.08.05 22:21 UTC
Hee hee, little update for you, the BM has spoke to my friend and asked if she thought I would go out on a foursome date with them as well so it wasn't quite so scarey, bless. I suggested maybe a dinner party or something with the other bridesmaid and her husband (official reason - so we can all meet pre-wedding) so I can actually meet him properly without it actually being a date. (coward aren't I?) :p
- By Vicki [gb] Date 04.08.05 05:43 UTC
Of course you're not a coward - what you are doing makes perfect sense to me :)  Just remember we need regular updates (and as time marches on, all the gory details) :D :D :D
