You can go via pet passport but remember that the pup will be around10 months when it comes over.  Or you do quarantine which unless you have family close by who can go to the kennels on numerous occasions during the week it can be quite hard for a young dog.

I'm not really up-to-date with things these days but I'm sure someone will be able to advise :d

I believe if you bring them in through Ireland then they don't have to go through the quarantine period as imposed by UK. I have American friends who are currently living in Belfast. They were bringing their cats with them when they moved here and were advised to bring them in via Dublin. Someone from a quarantine kennel in Belfast picked the cats up from the airport and took them to their kennels until paperwork was sorted out. As far as I am aware it was just a couple of days before the cats could be released from the kennels.

Sorry but Eire has the same PP rules as the UK & any dog/cat from the USA would need a PP to enter Eire ergo the dog would have to be 10 months old at date of entry to Eire or the UK this link refers to the UK and Eire

If it comes in on one of the Pet Passport routes no, but if it comes in any other port then it will need to go into Quarantine for a few days until the paperwork is sorted.

You would have to persuade the breeder to keep the pup until it was at least 10 months old (obviously you woudl have to pay for it's board), the other methiod woudl be to have it come to another country like France where a number of people are offering long term boarding to cimpkly wiht UK Pet Passport.  Either way the cost are going to be similar to Quarantine.

If you wanted to shwo tyhe dog here you would have to persuade the breeder to leave the ears alone.

As an aside a dobermann from the states will almost certainly have had his/her ears cropped, so you will not be able to show the dog.

yep that is the first thing i thought of
but most breeders will leave a pups ears natural they are not cropped till between 8 and 12 weeks

i have yet to contact the breeder so it is a dream at the moment
