Can anybody point me in the right direction, I'm looking for a bull mastiff/ridgeback cross. Is it possible for me to find one of these?
Any responses are better than none.
Many thanx.      Drew.

Why are you wanting this particular cross? Whats wrong with either/or ?
If you are looking for a cross breed then go to a rescue centre, there are lots of unwanted dogs in them.

I doubt very much if the OP will find that particular cross in a rescue centre. Although rescues centres can be a good starting point to look for a dog, Its better to get a puppy if you can so you can train it and rear it properly, a lot of rescue dogs have "baggage" and with large breeds (or crosses) its best to know what your getting by choosing a puppy from a litter where you can see the mother and get an idea of her size and temperament etc

Hi Drew, the deliberate breeding of cross breed puppies is not something that is recommended. Puppy farmers do this sort of breeding, and they are not recommended either. So the best advice we can give, is to settle on one or other of the breeds you mention, and contact the breed clubs via the Kennel Club, and contact a reputable breeder that does hip elbow and eye testing and get a healthy puppy.

If you are determined to have a cross breed, as already mentioned, there are hundreds to choose from in rescue kennels all over the country, perhaps one of those might have something with the appearance you want.

people may or may not approve of crossbreeding on here but it still happens and if this is the cross that the OP wants then best of luck to them in finding one. I have seen ridgeback crosses advertised before. If they dont want a pure puppy  of either breed then thats their choice and no one should try to talk them into it

Have you ever seen a advert for cross breed puppies stating about hip scores and other health checks required for the breeds crossed ? people on this site like to recommend puppy buyers buy from a breeder who has had all health checks done, so why would they recommend a cross breed whose parents probably havent had any of the necessary checks.  I expect this cross will look like either the mother of the father, and you probably wont know what it will look like until it grows up so whats the point

The thing is Bulldog Bash, I try to give the best advice I can, not just what people want to hear, they don't have to listen, but I don't have to have any part of bad breeding practice.

Its not that I am against cross breeds at all, bulldog bash, I have one myself from a rescue centre ;) BUT what I am thinking is why that particular cross? Are there lots of them about then? sorry I didn't know that. No reputable breeder would deliberately cross would they?

the thing is bulldog bash that if someone has a good RR or any other breed that is a good breed speciman, with a good temperament and has good health test results they are going to breed it to a good dog of the same breed. What does this tell you about the dogs that are used to 'create' these crosses!
