hiya can any1 help me please, my bitch was one on the 5th july, shes now in season for the 1st time, i want to mate her but i dont know if its to soon, i want a puppie u c, but one of hers, i dont want to do it too early, she is my baby, i adore her & dont wanna hurt her, debs.

Hi Debbie ....what breed is your baby? I say baby because, for most breeds she IS still a baby and probably too young to have a litter herself :) Have you had all the relevant health tests done on her? Your breed club should be able to give you guidelines as to health tests and also recommended age for a first litter.

Yes, she is too young - a bitch shouldnt be mated on her first season. Also, after her health checks have shown good results, you will need to spend lots of time finding the perfect dog as I'm sure you will want the best for her, and not just one which is handy.
Debbie if i was you i'd start asking lots of questions on this forum and find out what you need to know before you start breeding your dog. Alot of things can go wrong and there's things you should know about breeding before you even attempt.
Warm regards susan

With most medium size breeds a bitch should be at least two eyars old,a dnlarger ones nearer 3. For toy breeds that could ahve problems whelping then 18 months would be a minimum.
Most health tests aren't done until a year old. So get her Hip scored (cost em £170 this year), eye tested (about £30 and trael to the specialist vet), and any other breed specific tests.
Thn you need to find out if she is good enough to breed from. this sis done by showing or working yoru dog ands seeing how she measures up. this will also give you the opportunity of seeing males that may be suitable.
You will also need the advise and support of an expereinced person in yoru breed who know your bred lines specifically. thsi knowledge takes years to acquire so novices are relaint on more expereinced breeders if theya re to do things right.
You also need to remember that you will be morally responsible for the pups you breed for the rest of their life, whcih will mean having them back or finding them new homes if thisngs in their first homes don't work out.
the first post on the breeding forum refers to stud dogs but the advice and points raised appkly equally well or even more to a bitch owner.
hiya, fanx 4 ur reply, urs was the most helpfull, my bitch is a cross yorkshire terrier wiv a jack russell, her parents were excellent breeding dog n bitch but they got 2geva by accident an the cross litter was born, i bort my bitch from the breeders, i wanted a cross i didnt want a pedigree u c, she is my baby and i so desperatly want anuva puppy, i was gonna buy 1 but i thought it wud be nice to have one off her instead, she was 1 yr old on the 5th of july an i wasnt sure if i cud mate her so soon, im gonna wait till shes more mature, i am not a breeder and its not for money, i just wanted a puppy off my own bitch, she is a very small bitch, her dad was the yorkie but he was a miniture breed, her mom was a jack russell rat catcher. She has been bleeding heavily an her bits av swollen, its quite funny really coz shes walking wiv a wobble, shes going in2 her second week now, would it be ok to have her mated on her second season shud i wish 2 do so, an how often is each season, i really want a little friend for her to grow up wiv, thankyou, debbie.
Hi Debbie. Do you know how many dogs, especially cross breeds go into rescue each year? The number is phenomenal. I wish I had the facts at hand but I don't know exactly how many - maybe no one does. If they don't find homes they are put down.
I don't know how many pups you could have in a litter, but in my breed there could be up to 12 puppies in a litter. If you keep one, that's still 11 homes to find. If you don't find the homes, or if the homes are unsuitable and you don't check them well enough, the pups end up in a shelter or put down.
Sorry but in my opinion there are already too many unwanted dogs in this world, especially mutts, and deliberately breeding more is v irresponsible.
Having a litter is also v expensive. Things often go wrong and you often have to call the vet to save the life of the litter and mother. Vet fees are expensive. The litter needs to be wormed 3 times before they leave you - that's a lot of worming medicine to buy. Lots of hungry mouths to feed. The mess a litter can make is unbelievable, imagine 11 un-toilet trained pups messing in the same room. You are busy from 5am-midnight every day for 7 weeks. You can't go to work because you have to be available 24/7 for them. If the mother can't feed them you may have to hand-rear them. Having a litter is a huge responsibility.
Why don't you have a look in your local Friday Ad and give someone a call when you read about their litter? Pick up a nice cross breed pup from someone else. That's one less for the shelter.
hi there onetwothree, thanku for being so honest wiv me, i am gratefull for your reply and i have taken ur advice 2 heart, she is my baby and i wud neva want to harm her, im gonna take ur advice an get a puppy outta the paper, i will book my little baby in2 the vets and av her spayed, i really didnt wanna do it 2 her so thanks. Im very grateful for ur honest an blunt approach, its how i wud be, as a real dog lover i really dont wanna put my baby fru anyfink she doesnt av 2 go fru, so thats great, i spose i betta get me purse out then for a new pup 4 my baby, her name is sasha by the way, an fanx loads, who sed honesty doesnt pay lol, debbie.

Good for you for changing your mind - I wish more people were as sensible! :)
Remember it costs over £1000 up front to rear a litter, so you can see financially you'd be a lot better off saving someone else's crossbred pup. That way you don't have the lifelong responsibility of maybe 10 dogs.
Good luck!
:)
hiya 2 evry 1 that replied so far all of u was helpful and i got the most from brainless lol, i avnt made any decisions yet i will get more info first as u have all suggested, thanku very much , debbie
Hi Debbie i didn't know your dog was a cross, your best bet is to get her spayed and i'm sure Brainless will say the same.
Warm regards Susan
