Facey is a term which quite often comes up on here and I was wondering how you define facey?

IMO a facey judge is not always someone who pciks someone who is seen in the papers all the time or a major breeder.

Anyone who doesn't judge the dog but the person on the end of the lead instead....be it a freind,a breeder or a well known handler etc

Next question when does a person become a F'ace', as obviously they weren't 'Faces' to start with???? :D
- By sandrah Date 19.07.05 14:46 UTC
I have heard it was 'when enough favours were given to the judge'   :D :D
- By ClaireyS Date 19.07.05 15:04 UTC
I like my first prizes but there is no way I will be doing any favours to the judge in order to get them  ;)
- By Blondiflops [gb] Date 19.07.05 15:13 UTC
Unless of course Brad Pitt is judging :D ;D
- By ClaireyS Date 19.07.05 15:30 UTC

Get outta here Hugh Grant!

Well that is OK then I will never be a 'Face' then.  I don't and won't ever be judging.

I certainly won't be sleeping with any judges (many are the wrong persuasion, and the others probably would pay me not to :D).

I have no money, though anyone god at DIY would be welcome to do me a favour :D

Is anyone else like me and gets worried about being seen speaking to a judge who is judging in the future in case they do well and everyone thinks it's a fix?  The problem is people tend to mix with each when they like each others dog.
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 19.07.05 17:52 UTC
I chat to people whether or not they'll be judging in the future. If other people want to imagine the worst that's their problem, not mine.

Is there much of this happening then ? The only show I have been to should IMHO should been won by one of my girls as the 'competition' was out of their league (included my mum's rat, whoops sorry Dacshund, Only joking Mini-Meg :D ) but the woman voted her best buddies dog BIS

The show was the where my mum lives in a small town in Wales where everybody is related in some way so I was an outsider and therefore couldn't have possibily won  :p

Hmm,

I can't help thinking that if someone feels they have to 'curry favour' with a judge then they can't be very confident of their dog's worth
- By LJS Date 19.07.05 19:38 UTC
You maybe right :)

Some people however tend to use any tactics to win :)
- By archer [gb] Date 19.07.05 20:02 UTC
Well I for one would gain no satisfaction from a win that was awarded to 'me' rather than my dog!!! Would rather win on merit

I think the majority on here would all do the same ;) :)

The fact remains though that some people like people who suck up to them and they do do well.  Sad but true ;)  I am very proud to say that I know my dogs only get awarded because they are good dogs but I was once told by someone that had she realised who one of them was she would have done better which I must say for once left me totally speechless.  I wouldnt even ask to use the stud I used on tigger until after she had judged just in case people thought we did well because we were using the judges dog!

>some people like people who suck up to them

Don't enter under them! ;) :D
- By Dill [gb] Date 19.07.05 20:21 UTC
Problem is that it does nothing for the breed if anything less than the best dogs are being made up because of who the owner is .... :( :(
- By thomas-the-spot [gb] Date 20.07.05 06:31 UTC
But JG until you have seen them judge you dont know if the sucking up works!!!!
- By sandrah Date 20.07.05 07:18 UTC
I always thought being on the club committee got you the tickets in Dalmatians... ;)
- By thomas-the-spot [gb] Date 20.07.05 15:20 UTC
Sandra how could you say such a thing!!!!  ;)

JG I have made it a rule always to go under judges at least once although this year I have made a couple of exceptions because as we have found out you never know who is going to like your dog and by the time you have sat and watched and waited for them to come around again your dog is in vetran. :)
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 20.07.05 07:28 UTC
You can go and watch, but not enter, or listen to people you trust (not just ringside gossip! ;) ).
:)
- By f.a.brook [gb] Date 20.07.05 11:06 UTC
I have done that it wasn't such a good judge so i didnt take my dog but we took our poodles i showed one then went in the ykc stakes and after that i sat and watched the judging from ringside talking to some friends.
