Is it really, really scary though? OH wants to go and see it, but I'm a big girl's blouse and don't want to be sat in the cinema hiding behind my fingers and sunk down low on my seat so that nothing can get me from behind

As a guide to what scares me, when I saw The Exorcist back when it first came out I was so deeply traumatised that for years later even thinking about it got me scared again. On the other hand, I found Blair Witch Project a pile of pants! Do you think I could survive The Descent? :D
Lesley

I would like to see it but I'm such a wuss when it comes to scary films. Even seeing the trailers on telly is enough to give me nightmares. Having said that, I thought Exorcist was so ridiculous that it was funny and Blair Witch didn't scare me either.

Not really scary - more psychologically distrubing. I found the claustrophobic bits in the caves far more scary than the monster things themselves.
Good british film though - I enjoyed it :)

Hmm, I'm think I'd find the claustrophobic bits more scarey too! I think the horror of the Exorcist very much depends when you first saw it. I saw it when it was first out and there was so much hype and hysteria that people went to the cinema expecting to be petrified, so they were. ;) I saw it again in my late thirties, at the cinema again, and was not scared in the least. It was before it had been remastered, so the print of the film they showed was all scratchy and dull and the effects seemed so tame! I ended up wondering why on earth I had been so terrified of the film the first time round that I had nightmares for weeks! Mind you, my Mum says when she went to see Psycho (the original one) when it came out, people were screaming and all but fainting in the cinema, so it just goes to show that what we are scared witless by is an evolving thing :)
Lesley

I think you're right. I first saw the Exorcist when I was about 17 (12 years ago) and I watched it with friends at a friends house. I had always been told not to watch it as it was so disturbing and my brother had a copy of it which my Dad made him keep hidden from me so by the time I saw it I expected it to be terrifying but by that time I had seen much scarier films (like Nightmare on Elm St etc).
I'm quite claustrophobic too so I don't think The Descent would be for me. And I hate 'monster' flicks. Anyone seen Jeepers Creepers? I saw about 45 mins, couldn't watch anymore and had to get the OH to accompany me to the bathroom I was so terrified. And yes, I realise that it's pretty crap as horror films go!Had nightmares about it for ages but at least I admit to being a wuss!!

Ive seen Jeepers Creepers and I was s**ting myself when they go down into the lair at the bottom. It reminded me of a kids cartoon the more you get into the story because the "thing" that did that to them bodies is after a pair of eyes to finish off his creation!!!

i was told that the story gets silly and that I should have watched til the end as I switched off at the scariest bit but I just can't bring myself to watch it again!! I am such a big girls blouse!

I tend to find films like Texas Chainsaw Massacre more disturbing than monster films. I like to watch films that are more realistic...
I enjoyed Blair Witch because I like to look deeper - as in what would I do if I were there? Same with Descent - crawling through tight underground holes not knowing if you are going the right way or not, can't turn around, flashlight battery fading...no map

I watched Scream again the other night - even having seen it loads of times - the cliched horror of being trapped in a car with the killer on the outside with the keys still freaks me out LOL

Are you trying to use adrenalin to induce labour?

:D

LOL :D Am trying most other things so why not!!

I managed about 15 mins of Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Way too disturbing for me!!! The blood and guts isn't a problem...I can do gory but that mask gave me the creeps something shocking!
And I'm the same with those 'Urban Legend' scenarios. OH can't understand why I get so freaked out if we're walking the dogs in the woods when it's starting to get dark.

Me too, I'm the same. TCM was a very disturbing film - the relentless-ness of it
The descent does make you jump but i couldn't go down those tunnels i'd have a panic attack and probably get stuck, it does make you think though. The chain saw mascare freaked me out and wrong turn you can imagine there's people like that.

LOL!! We're off to see Madagaska tonight!!! It's about the fifth children's film that we've watched - minus any children!!! People must think we're nuts - I'm 29 and he's 26!
I watched The Decent last night, I found it boring nothing in it that I havent seen before in other movies. TCM was far more realistic and shocking!

Well, we went last night! I spent the first half cringing and cowering and feeling horribly claustrophobic

Then it just got really silly, which was fine as it meant I didn't have nightmares after all :D
I couldn't even begin to watch the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Lesley

I haven't seen the remake of TCM and but I heard its not as good as the original.
