hi ive been out of handling for years as just got back into showing our dogs
been re-practising the walking bits( t's,l's, ect) and am starting to remember some of it.
i didnt want to enter any handling show until i feel confident enough but i noticed on one of the forms we were filling out for the breeds classes in september that there was a junior handling banerdown stakes class but the classes were not for handling but for merrit of how good the dog is.
so if its judged on my puppy and not my handling does this mean they will only do the basics, on the table, up and down, triangle or will they make me do the hard patterns. as i was hoping it would be a basic class so i could have a start back at handling as this would be my first time showing since i was really young and know i would be too nervous to do the proper crufts qualifying handling stuff and our 2 dogs are just puppys so they wouldnt know how to do it either.
also does anyone kno of any junior ring craft or something in scotland, glasgow area( i can travel as far as i have to) as the ringcraft i go to now has changed as i went years ago to the same one and they had an hour specially for juniors but now it does just dog work and now much on handling at all and i really need some help.
thanks if anyone could help me it would be great x
forgot to add email if anyone knew of the junior handling ringcraft so hav regd so if anyone knos could they pm with where the classes are and the number if they have it so we can phone and see if i can go
thank you so much
where abouts in the country are you some one may be near you to help.

Stakes classes are purely done on the dog so it is a breed class! Only triangles and up and down...and your handling will not come into it except a good handler shows and presents the dog better....
You will also find most handling classes you will only need to do a triangle and up and down. T's and L's are not very popular anymore. Although can be a good pattern to show handlers awareness.
I can't help you with ringcraft unless you want to travel about 9-11 hours!!!!
hi thanks for your replies, glad it will only be the basics as to be honest i would have made a fool of myself if it was the complecated stuff.
its junior handling or even adult handling classes in glasgow area, scotland i am looking for, i can travel quite far (within reason) if i have to as parents have a car and i really want to learn.

We all make fools of ourselves now and again...even the professionals....

I have made some VERY stupid mistakes in the past in the ring...

i cant help you with ringcraft as im in Aberdeen but you should just enter the handling classes. i dont do handling anymore (to old, sniff sniff) but what you have to remember is that there are new people starting all the time and the only way you can get better is to practice and its best just to get in there!!! I cant remember the last time i was asked to do anything but a triangle so im sure you will be fine.
Have fun handling and remember the best thing is the experience and the sweet at the end!!!

hi, i didnt realise they didnt ask for those patterns much anymore as when i used to do j.h at open shows they asked for them and in reverse all the time. have decided to do the ykc stakes class(the class thats judged on the dog) in september as id feel more confident with it being judged on her rather than me as it would be my first proper show.
and have a few companian shows im going to before then with the girls for some extra practice and hav just sent away for the book by the girl in the dog paper which should help me a bit till i can find some proper lessons.
thanks again for your help

the book you have orderd by marina is very good, she used to help me at training and i still use the book now to swat up! which show are you doing th stakes class at? i think the last time i was asked to do anything but a tryangle (or reverse) was at a club match whare i was asked to do an A, F and a number 7. i think the smaller the show the more they will try and test you test you.
good luck with the shows.
