the husky who came 3rd in working gp has araf after its name, could you tell me what it means please
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 13.07.05 23:02 UTC
Are you sure that it wasn't just RAF?  This is registration applied for.
- By gary22U [gb] Date 16.07.05 14:30 UTC
If this was just RAF then it could not legally be allowed to show as an import it MUST be registered here first before competition
- By Moonmaiden Date 16.07.05 15:11 UTC
Which rule does that come under Gary?

R&R B.3.25/20

Dogs for Competition

Dogs entered for any form of KC competition i.e. Show Classes...............must be registered in the name of the person(s)making the entry. If,at the closing date for entries, the owner(s)has applied for but have not received the KC registration certificate, the dog shall be entered in the na,e shown as the first choice on the application for........followed by the letters N.A.F, In the casesof transfer of ownership & change of name .....T.A,F(Rransfer Applied For) or C.N.A.F(Change of Name Applied For)where application has been made but not received

No mention of RAF or ARAF !

In 'the olden days' I remember dogs with ARAF after their names, and it stood for 'Active Register Applied For'. But we don't have the two registries any more ...

The guest is correct, the dog has ARAF and TAF after his name.

In which case it should probably have been NAF as there is no ARAF in the KC R&R The owner may have thought they needed to put ARAF as Application for Registration Applied For instead of NAF

The R&R are quite clear only NAF TAF & CNAF should be used

I don't think any breach will have occured as more than likely they have got the reg cert by the date of the show & as long as it was submitted they have complied with the requirement, the actual letters are really irrelevant & common sense I am sure will prevail as the dogs registered name doesn't include the NAF TAF bit
- By wheaten_mad [gb] Date 16.07.05 17:52 UTC
Yeah I agree it was probably meant to be RAF and that he might have got he certificate before the show. Dougal was entered as TAF cause the registration was received after I entered him.

The owners of the dog in question have already had a CC taken off them this year, and are under investigation for showing one dog that was entered under the name of another, so they tend to be watched like a hawk at anything they do now, which is probably why the OP asked what the letters meant.
- By Moonmaiden Date 18.07.05 11:17 UTC
But the bit after the dogs name is NOT part of the dogs name just showing that the registration certificate had not been received so they will not get disqualified as long as the registration application had been sent off I'll be doing the same for my BC as I'll have to wait for his ISDS cert & then I can apply for a KC name & if a show comes up in the mean time after I have sent in the ISDS & other docs he will be NAF TAF until the KC register him
- By spanishwaterdog [gb] Date 18.07.05 12:40 UTC
You cannot enter a show though (meaning showing on the day) unless you have the registration document.  So if they still didn't have the registration documents then the dog should not be shown.

Well I will re post the KC rule on this:

R&R B.3.25/20

Dogs entered for any form of KC competition i.e. Show Classes...............must be registered in the name of the person(s)making the entry. If,at the closing date for entries, the owner(s)has applied for but have not received the KC registration certificate, the dog shall be entered in the name shown as the first choice on the application for........followed by the letters N.A.F, In the cases of transfer of ownership & change of name .....T.A,F(Rransfer Applied For) or C.N.A.F(Change of Name Applied For)where application has been made but not received

These are the only references in the KC R&R 2005/006 to entering your dogs at shows when the certificate has not been received

Can you tell me where it says you have to have the certificate ?????  BTW my Champion's bitch transfer certificate had not been received by me when she went BPIB at a Champ show & she was shown ARAF TAF(correctly as that was how it was supposed to be done then) & the KC never disqualified her
- By spanishwaterdog [gb] Date 18.07.05 13:35 UTC
I once had my BOB taken from me although I had sent off the form well before entry and still hadn't rec'd. it!  This was some time ago so it looks as though the rules must have changed recently!!
- By Moonmaiden Date 18.07.05 13:43 UTC
The rules apply if the KC have received the forms but don't have to have actioned them. I send all forms to the KC by signed for post or recorded delivery that way I know they have been delivered(I always check that it has been delivered)as long as you can prove you sent the application(s)in if there is any problems, the KC will take no action

These rules have not changed for many years(except for the actual initials that should be used which at one time were ARAF when for a brief period there were three levels of registration)
- By spanishwaterdog [gb] Date 18.07.05 14:10 UTC
I had sent the forms and that KC admitted that they'd got them.  I didnt take things further as it was only one show.
- By Moonmaiden Date 18.07.05 14:20 UTC
You are not pedantic like me then ! I got a letter from the KC re one of my dogs DOB in a Ch Chow catalogue being wrong however as I had entered him on line & had a copy of the entry form details showing I had entered it correctly & that it was the printers error I got a letter confirming that nothing would be done, lol I complained as I had done nothing wrong & got a letter of apology from the KC, the Show Sceretary( as I had reporter the error & they had not noted the KC copy of the catalogue with the printers error) & the printers as well !
