On wether i want to breed and show border collies, i e-mailed a breeder a perfectally normal question and the reply i got was so sarcastic and it was one of the breeders that is quite popular and are in alot of dogs lines. I didnt bother replying as there wasnt much point.

What was the question?

<On wether i want to breed and show border collies>

Shouldn't that be Show & Breed ? Perhaps if you stated you wanted to breed & show might put off a breeder I know it would me as it makes it look as though you want to breed as a first objective & knowing how many BCs there are in rescue adding to the population as a main reason for having a BC may be looked on as not being the correct thing to do

Why not talk to people at shows or on the telephone so you can express what your intentions are & correct an misunderstanings that might arise.

IMHO the first reason for having a dog of any breed(unless they are a purely working dog) should be as a companion & then showing, obedience, breeding etc

That was my thoughts exactly, which was why I wanted to know what the wording was.

If you are serious about showing, then the first place to go is a champ or club show and see which breeding you like and ask questions there.

Breeders who care about their breed are very protective of their dogs and I must say that sometimes what's said over the phone by people doesn't always come out the right way.  I was unsure when someone phoned me once for a pup, but when I met her in person and spoke to people who knew her I knew that my girl couldn't go to a better home.

I'd better not say who it is but I'm sure she knows :d

I didnt mention breeding or showing, i didnt percifically enquire about a puppy either i was just asking a question as Eva has her dogs lines. I think i might just stick to agility and them being my family.

Well what was it you asked they bred for?

I might be able to help if I knew the question.

Just in general things like what country the lines were were they show or working just wanted some basic information.
- By sandrah Date 18.07.05 13:09 UTC
I can't see how someone can take offence at that, but if you mentioned breeding I can understand it.

If you want to PM which line you were interested in and what appealed in that line, I might be able to point you elsewhere.

What part of the country are you in and I could point you in the direction of the nearest breed show.

Hi BorderCollielvr,
If you want to show your dog go for it! New blood is always required.
Don't let people put you off...
In my opinion they must feel threatened.
You will meet some very nice people there.
Go to an open show first, speak to other nice breeders there  are some..
Is there a Border Collie Club/Ass that can give you some Information?
All the best
Denese
