Hi

I am looking at newspaper adverts for Lab puppies and keep seeing FTCH, mentioned but I don't know what it stands for

Regards

Field Trial Champion

Karl - look for the adverts that say parents hip scored and eye tested - much more important :D

You might also see on a pedigree FTW or FTAW. These mean field trial winner and field trial award winner. On a flatcoat pedigree and in the future it might appear on the pedigrees of labs will be SDC "A" or SDC "B".
The KC are looking at extending the Shooting Dog Certificate which was developed by the late Hon Mrs Jessel for the Flatcoatd Retriever Society, to cover all gundog breeds. It is test where up to six dogs are assessed for working ability on an ordinary shooting day. "A" is excellent, quiet stady etc... "B" is usually awarded to dogs who excell in many ways but might not be so steady. All must be quiet, obedient, and importantly soft mouthed.
