I think my computer is dying! :-( At first it would freeze sometimes when put onto standby and had to be switched off at the wall. Now it also does this weird thing where it will restart itself with a this two-tone alarm going off coming from the hard drive. They only way to stop it is to put in onto standby. Now the colour is fading and going funny. Any ideas of what could be wrong or tips on who or what to call out/speak to.

<<<Sob>>> I can't loose CD! I'm faaaddddiiiinnnnnnnng

Hi kid, only too happy to help - you could re-read your new HP, take up needle point, gut the garage/attic/cellar or....

buy a NEW one ........  :P

Already! It's only just had it's 2nd birthday! Surely they are meant to last longer than that. We've got computers at work that are older than the kids who use them. If it's dead, it's dead, no replacement. Mum took out a loan against the house to buy this one she can't get another one and certainly I can't. :-(

Well I think mines got a virus!  I just don't understand people who do this do they not realise that many of us can't afford to buy new computers and it's not the computer companies that they are getting at but people who need or enjoy using computers.

My dad tried to switch his on the other day and there's nothing coming from it, you can hear it whirring away but that's it!!

We had a virus a while back and the nice independent computer shop saved our important stuff, wiped our hard drive and re-installed everything. It cost us about £70 - cheaper than a new computer!

Could the problem be with your dad's monitor? (sounding as if I know what I'm talking about! :o )

i think I can smell burning...

Fan it, quick! Hairdryer on cold, or something.

If you think it could be the fan, take one side pf the computer off and leave it off for a while. I took mine off a few weeks ago now and mines been fine, mine was just freezing.
I still haven't got round to getting a new fan as I forgot about the side being off to be honest till I saw it mentioned on here.

If the burning smells like TCP then i would turn it off. I walked into my sons room and a strong smell of TCP, filled the room. His mother board went in the end.
