As it was soooo hot last night we decided to take our puppy party class outside to train, whilst their a lady walked past with a puppy and I couldnt work out what it was, so being nosy I went to ask. She told me it was a GSD X Malamute :o and that she wasnt taking it to any training classes at all...................................................................Nuff said!
We managed to persuade her to come during the hours of 6.30 and 9 to allow her pup to socialize with some of our group in the park as it was extremely nervous. She really wasnt interested in joining any kind of class though!
Hi, what a handfull that dog will be if not trained or mixed with other dogs !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Richard
Maybe she has other ways of socialising her dog. I didn't take my first dog to training classes until he nearly 4 and that was only coz I wanted to take up competitive obedience. He is bomb proof with everything. On the other hand my next dog was socialised there from 6 weeks and he is really nervous of other dogs. It's not obligatory you know. I can't help but feel you are condeming this woman you don't know just because she isn't doing things your way.

It is highly recommended that Malamutes are taken to training classes ;)
I have no doubt that it is a good idea Mel, especially as the males can become dog aggressive. I just find it slightly annoying that ppl on here seem to have a set of ideals about how a dog should be brought up and are so quick to condem anyone who does or thinks differently. I was just making a point really. :-)

Lol, I'm not condeming anyone, But I DO believe that ALL breeds should be socialized in as many different environments, and to answer your question, No she isn't socializing her dog any other way and still seemed suprised when her dog was approached by another puppy and it was extremely nervous.
Just so you know, I never tried to make her join the group, we are booked up for a long time anyway, I assumed we were helping her out by allowing her to join in our socilization time at the end of our classes....for free! Cant win sometimes....
At least you tried, maybe she's shy or lacks confidence around other ppl. Or on the other hand maybe she just thinks she can manage but at least if you've offered so she knows there is somewhere she can go if she needs it in the future. All you can do really. :-)
