Having experienced both (lost dog and burglary!) I know which I personally find more worrying ... ;) You have to do what you think is best.

I only found out when I went on the Kennel Club website a few months back, if not I would never have known.

Our dogs only have their Petsafe discs on. Petsafe hold our home address, landline and mobile numbers. Home address/landline number are not much use if you have lost the dog on holiday or out for the day :( Ours are unlikely to get lost at home as they are both 'homing' dogs and can always get hoem from the fields without crossing a road. They would have a problem if we lost them anywhere else tho' :)

As far as i am aware ..... Police stations will no longer be taking dogs in as of April 2006.
I had to have a debate with our local police station to take in next doors dog as it had yet again chewed through our fence & his owner would not come off the golf course to get him from me & as he is a dog that has no social manners with other dogs i couldn't keep him here with mine.
I had to stand my ground & almost demand that the police take him in, i also think that the police are only able to charge a certain amount & that has to go to the DW's
I had hoped that this might have made next door take better care of him, but it doesn't seem to have worked :(

To my knowledge, police stations (certainly in my area) haven't taken in dogs for many years. :( They don't have anywhere to keep them - if you turn up with a stray they won't accept it and tell you to contact the council.

I have done this and wish I hadn't.  I don't drive and had to walk to the nearest Police station that took dogs, as they would not coem to pick it up.  At the time my son was a toddler and it was winter time.  Now I just try not to attract the dogs attention and hope it finds it's own way home :(

One I don't drive, adn I have to admit I have left a dog where it was when it has been out of office hours as it is so much hassle to find osmeone to tke the dog.  I walked miles to the nearest cop shop as they won't pick up.  I will no longer take a strange dog back to my house.

Its a bit hard to know what to do , me personly Im a bit of an animal magnet they seem to all follow me home cats included , I think about strays like my own dog , I would hope anyone who found my little one would keep hold of her untill I could collect her . Leaving a dog running about could get run over :( and handing it in , the dog could go to the pound pick up parvo or not be found and pts . Its hard if you dont have friendly dogs or enough room to keep them safe . I have to go with my feelings :P lets hope i dont find a few strays at the same time :D
