our cavalier is 12 weeks old he seems to growl when he is picked up any ideas on how to stop him doing this

Many dogs don't like being picked up - contrary to popular belief.  Are you sure you are picking thepuppy up properly.  If you don't pick him up properly you can hurt him.  Ask your vet to show you the correct way to pick up your puppy.  Somebody might be along in a while with more advice.
