Hi all.

Cassie, our 7month old staffie has just become a lady...........all over the cream sofa !!!!   Now, obviously we knew this was coming, and last night she was a bit "sulky" so guess it was sooner rather than later.

How long does the bleeding last ?

I have NO IDEA.but being a man I wouldnt I guess......... lol

Anything from 10 to 21 days!

She'll be in season at least 21 days, possibly bleeding throughout. The most fertile period is usually from about day 10 to day 15, and with some bitches the discharge becomes paler around this time - do not be fooled into thinking she's coming out of season!

Keep her away from all other dogs for the full 21 days, using caution for a further week afterwards. Don't even allow her in your own garden unattended.

Yes, some bitches do indeed seem to suffer from PMT. So be nice to her! ;)

My staffy was in season for about 2 and a half weeks and the first season was the lightest.  You can buy these bitch pants in which you put a pad if you want to save the cream sofa.  You can get them from pet shops.

thanks.... a staff in a nappy !!!   lol

Actually, Im redecorating the house, and cream sofa has taken some punishment anyhow, so a little blood (although not nice looking) wont ruin it....it will be replaced once house is finished, and once puppy hass "grown".

We are intending to get her done, whch we have been told should happen after her first season....................  so any new cream sofa should be safe....... well from that anyway

I'm planning to get those for my puppy when she comes in, as my husband is very houseproud and it's hard enough reconciling that with 3 long haired dogs which all jump on the sofa, without adding in bloodstains!!!  :-)

My staffie bled for about two weeks.  Thankfully when she came into season whe we had just bought a new place which needed a complete overhall including carpets etc.  We did put an old blanket down on our sofas and beds as she does spend her time with us on these.  She was 7 months when she came into season and has now been speyed so no more problems. Must comment though that we had her speyed because she is a family pet and we have no intention of showing, breeding etc.  It was done purely as a medical reason.  Don't want her getting any bad diseases, cancers as she gets older.
