Is it always necessary to have papers for the pup you have bought. I have heard of pups who are cheaper if you don't want them registered, I always thought they were registered as a litter not individually. They said if you want it k c registered it will be £50 dearer.

If that's what the breeder told you, you're being had. It costs £12 to register a puppy with the Kennel Club.
Run a mile from this breeder, there are better people about.

A KC certificate is not necessary but does not cost £50 a puppy. If someone is selling puppies this way do not buy from them & walk away
All puppies from KC registered parents should be registered IMHO & if the new owners aren't interested they do not need to transfer the puppy into their names. To charge £50 is blatant money making

It only costs £12 for the breeder to KC register each pup so £50 would be rather over the top! And yes, each pup is registered individually. I'd say the MAIN reason for wanting a pup registered is that your registration ceritificate will have the parents health test results printed on them -such as hip score, date of latest eye test etc. That way you know for certain the essential tests have been done.

Then I have only one name for that breeder. BANDIT.

thats mad! £200 just for a peice of paper! I suppose some people must get sucked in by this scam though :-(

Yes, I see this regularly too...puppies being sold with 'no papers' and £150 - £200 cheaper than the average price of a registered puppy. I have also seen an increasing number of ads stating that parents are KC registered but puppies are not. This suggests to me that parents have been endorsed to prevent breeding so litter can't be registered  Or am I just a cynic? :)
The only time that it will cost the breeder £50 to register the pup is if it is 12 months and over, up until that time it is the usual price, but really there's no reason why a breeder wouldn't register a pup before that age and then decide to do it after 12 months in my eyes.

Absolutely.

The other scenario is that they are breeding on every season and only registering alternate litters.
