We are the proud owners of a Pyrenean Moutain Dog pup of 16 weeks old.Odin always had the door left open for him to go out and pee at his old home. Here I do not feel safe leaving the door open all night.I am taking him out for a final pee at about 11.30p.m. His next pee outing will be around 6.00-7.00 a.m. I am fully prepared for a mess in the moring but will he hopefully get use to having to hold it in over night instead of having the door always open?Wish us luck with the frist night away from his mum! I think major cuddles and ear pluggs are going to be the order of the night! Many Thanks

I think you are going to have a broken sleep for a little while. I would never dream of leaving the door open all night, but a puppy of this age will not be able to last out without going at sometime during the night. The problem is that if he is "Allowed" to go indoors, because there was no way to get out, then there is the start of a habit forming. I usually start by getting up and letting my puppies out at about 2 or 3am. As time goes by and puppy is clean I start to stretch it a little until I finally get a full night's sleep! (Then I get another puppy and it all starts again!!!)

HI John

That is pretty much what we do!!! Broken sleep and puppies go toegther! :))

Banya goes out at about 2 a.m. and lasts until about 6.45a.m.;not too bad. A little while ago she started to go in the house even with the door oopen but I discovered i had missed a couple of spots which I cleaned up. (Guest, when you clean up, remember to use a solution of biological washing powder or else odour eliminator from th epet shop,or Odin will use his nose and think "I've been here before so it must be OK").

Banya now gets very excited about going out as she knows she gets a tiny bit of cocktail sausage (yes I know - only the best for my girl :)) ) and the accidents inside are becoming "occasional".

I must admit I feel pretty knackerred with looking after her all day, talk about energy..... <G>

Many Thanks I'll get that alarm set ! He did some beautiful art work in poo on the walls and floor in the night bless him and is now wet but happy from a quick pee in the rain.I burned up enough calories from scrubbing and mopping to eat a full English breakfast yum!
So if I do an outside trip at 11.30p.m I should aim for another at 2.00a.m ? Then again at 4.30 or 5.00 a.m ? yes.
Thamks again Moira

Thank you for the welcome Liegh. Odin seems rather unhappy and off his food is it because he misses his mum.He has been for serveral pees and a poo so I dont think he is actually unwell just a bit down frist full night away from Mum and siblings? Any ideas :-(

He is bound to be a little bit unsure of himself. Its a big step leaving your mum :-( I would not panic to much though. Just spend some time with him inbetween sleeps and make sure that he has a nice warm bed and plenty of toy's. I am sure that he will be happier in no time at all. :-) Keep an eye on the lack of appetite, just incase he has picked up a bug.
