This morning I heard a munching and gulping sound and found Rudi with one of my knee-high hose, it must have fallen off the pile of washed clothes I took upstairs last night. I checked it and found that the top part of the hose was missing and nowhere to be found. He would have to pick the thickest end to consume. I am sure Rudi ate it as he's done it before, but not in the past 6 months. He used to rip up and eat bits shoes and slippers, but now leaves them alone. He will still rip and and eat bits of some soft toys, so I do not totally trust him.
Now I have to hope that the sock comes out one end or the other sometime soon. I just hope this one passes without causing a blockage.

Some months ago my partner was doing poo patrol in the garden and I was washing up. I told him that I would leave the full bin bag open so that when he had finished he could pop the latex gloves he was wearing into it and we could throw the whole bag away. He finished what he was doing and put the gloves into the top of the bag. A few moments later I turned around and Sox had one of the gloves in his mouth. I wasnt too concerned as he always has something in his mouth and asked my partner to take it away. He called me frantically and said he needed help. The dog was under the table refusing to give up the glove and then proceeded to tilt his head back like a pelican with a fish and a few gulps later had swallowed the glove whole! You can imagine my panick and we rushed him to the vet who very matter of factly stated that if a dog was going to do this it would be a Staffie! He checked him over and said that he would be fine as its not poisonous and is malliable and would form to the shape of his insides and would pass through in a few days. A few days came and went and no sign. After a week it reappeared - a finger at a time! About a week after this I was in the garden and spotted somthing odd looking and went to investigate and found a whole glove - unbeknown to us he had eaten the pair! I had been so frantic I hadnt even thought about the other glove! Im sure if my little one can pass this yours will be fine. If you have any concerns or he seems bloated and cant pass it then visit the vet. Otherwise im sure the rascal will be fine.
Fortunately mine has grown out of this now so I dont need eyes in the back of my head!
Good Luck xx
mine have never grown out of chewing socks ,, to the point that if they find one they will play tug of war with it and 5 minutes later you find the sock in 1000 little peices all over the floor ..the OH always goes mad coz they seem to pick on his decent socks, its his own fault really as he always insists on changing his socks infront of them and the cheeky beggers pinch it right from under his nose !!!
I have learnt its just one of the many joys of having dogs :D:D and thank god socks arent too expensive to replace these days haha :D

Buffy has a thing for chews... especially if she can eat it all in one go....! Anyway un beknown to us she had obviously found an old one she'd hidden in the garden as we had taken all the small ones away or so we thought... Sunday Mornin 4.30 am last week she was violently sick on the bed (nasty!) this sickenss carrried on for 24hours so £60 later after a visit to the vets special food and chew tablet things she was feelin better two days later again 4.30 am she was at the bottom of the bed.... chucking her guts up.... I hate sick sounds makes me wanna go too :(.... anyway out comes an entire chew!!!
Buffy is now only allowed large dog chews!!!

Well, Rudi threw up this morning about fifteen minutes after eating his breakfast. I am not going to panic (yet) and assume it's the sock and a blockage. I have no idea what was in the throw up because he'd recycled it by the time I got there seconds later, so now I am going to stay home from work to watch him. If it is a blockage he'll throw up again. I hope like Buffy the sock bit passes eventually.
It just puzzles me, do will canines insist on eating nonedibles -- or is this just a domestic dog thing?

Dog sick is bad enough.... why do they insist on recycling it..... ergh! :)

Just wrote that reply and buffy just chucked up her breakfast! Got their in time for it not to be recycled.... Shes only having Chicken and rice or lamb and rice for a month as we are having a trial to see if her diet changs her seperation anxiety, and general insecurity as reccommended by behaviourist.... lamb and rice this morning, but she had it last night and wasn't sick. These pups make you worry, being sick like this is not normal, as she was doing it before her little chew eating session... she has been checked over by our vets as well. Nigtmare :(
My cocker spaniel likes to steal socks and runs around the house with them for a bit, then try and trade them for food! She's never eaten one, though some of our socks are now very well ventilated!
not just my pup thats sock mad then lol :D what with kai swallowing them and the usual gone missing in the washer syndrome, i havent got a matching pair left :-( thankfully 3days after he's eaten one back up it comes, not in a wearable condition thou. oh well shall just have to go buy some more. just glad i wear those small trainer socks :D
Thankfully, it's only my Dad's socks that my dog tends to steal!
