can anyone tell me some basic info or where to look about careers in accountancy. Younger daughter is thinking about this. Do you have to go to University or are there other paths to follow.
Thanks

If you put in AAT or CIMA on a search it should bring up some info for your daughter.
You can still work and study for some of these qualifications but it can be really hard.
A friend passed her exams whilst working........she was really dedicated and very good at time
management but she said it was very intensive and you had to have a good employer who would
let you have study leave to take time out to cope with all the revision and work needed to pass the
exams.

I work in accounts - started at the bottom as a bought ledger clerk now am accounts assistant
and jack of all - done sales ledger, bought ledger and payroll.
I still enjoy it and have been in accounts roles for 16 years now :)
I haven't taken any exams though, life so busy with dogs, housework never enough time in the day for
normal chores let alone home study :D

The best thing to do is get in contact with a reputable accountancy practice or agency. They will be able to give advice on what qualification your daughter will be best suited to study and also whether there are any jobs she can apply for that will support her in her studies whilst gaining valuble experience along the way :)

Best of luck to her :)

ps I would recommend ACCA but it does all depend on what your daughter wants to achieve ;)
