Found a hedgehog in the pond the other day, poor little mite had drowned :( I went out to feed the fish, and just as I turned to go indoors I noticed suspiciously hedgehog-esque spikes inbetween the lily pads - had to get the little guy out with a broom, it was only a baby :( Been there a few days I think - all swollen and floating, and the algae had already started growing on his fur, poor fella.
Made me so sad - I honeslty didn't think we got hedgies through our garden anymore, I haven't seen one in over 10 years now and we've rebuilt the whole garden too - it's just horrible to see the first one in all that time, drowned in my new pond. At least the fish didn't pick at him - I have a 12" pleco in there, and she is quite the scavenger.
I haven't seen any other walking about, but at least I haven't seen any others ni the pond either. I'm toying with the idea of a ramp into it now, although I think he got tangled up in the lilies.
