With the dog, when i do it i get some right filthy look. Im waiting for the neighbours to report me to environmental health or report me to the RSPCA for passing germs to the dogs lol.
- By ludivine1517 Date 12.07.05 16:43 UTC
LOLOLOL
I share my ice creams too, nothing wrong with that!
- By ShaynLola Date 12.07.05 16:45 UTC
I often share my water bottle too when on walks...that's earned me some right disgusted looks :)
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 12.07.05 16:47 UTC
I suppose I shouldn't but I do.  Funny that I've never come down with any illnesses, I get a cold once ayear and that's it.  I never suffered with any of the childhood illnesses either.

I think that we are turning into a World that's too hygienic, it never did us any harm sharing ice creams with our dogs, playing and eating in mud etc. :d  Well some people might not agree that it's done me no harm :d
- By Daisy [gb] Date 12.07.05 16:50 UTC
I don't share an icecream - but always leave a bit of a magnum on the stick for the dogs :~ They sit in front of me and take turns (oldest first) to lick the icecream off the stick. They have perfect manners and never try to eat the stick and the oldest always leaves some for the younger one :D

No, never!! But I do share mine with my horse Splash... does that make me a bad person? :D :D
- By colliesrus [gb] Date 12.07.05 17:43 UTC
Lucky Splash! I don't share mine, sorry too greedy!!! LOL But they do get their own child sized ones from the ice cream van which go down in one before they sit and stare at me still living in hope. Will they never learn? ;-)
- By ice_cosmos Date 13.07.05 11:42 UTC
I often share mine - though they don't seem to grasp the idea they are supposed to lick it rather than trying to eat the entire thing, so more often than not they get their own :D They are good with Ice poles though. I also share my water bottle with them - my bitch isn't too keen but my dog is happy to drink from it, it is easier teaching them to drink from water bottles when on long walks - though I do still carry a collapsible water bowl if we are out for several hours.

I used to buy my mare her own magnum when I had one (white) - I used to eat the outer chocolate layer then give her the ice-cream, I wouldn't have minded sharing mine but I wouldn't have been left with much if I did! So she got her own :)
- By Jeff (Moderator) Date 12.07.05 19:35 UTC
I often used to share my pint with my retriever!
- By Emily Rose [gb] Date 12.07.05 19:39 UTC
I share most food and drink with our lot, especially Idõ :D Its like 'a bit for me, a bit for you, a bit for me, a bit for you...' etc etc

BUT we are still in the process of teaching him to LICK rather than try and down the whole ice-cream!!!

I can understand why owners of big, drooly dogs wouldn't want to share tho!!LOL!!

Emily
- By ShaynLola Date 12.07.05 20:16 UTC
Hadn't thought of that Emily-Rose!! Might have to rethink my sharing practices when the Newfie pup is older...don't fancy drool in my mint choc chip
- By Emily Rose [gb] Date 12.07.05 20:20 UTC
Ahh never mind, just spoon it off and give it to the dog then eat the rest yourself..a bit of drool or a few hairs are ok in my book!!!
- By ShaynLola Date 12.07.05 20:26 UTC
Oh yes...the hairs. It amazes me how there is ALWAYS dog hair in the butter/yoghurt etc especially when it's a new tub that's just been opened. I was beginning to think the manufacturers put them there but my non-doggy owning friends assure me that they don't come as standard :P
- By Emily Rose [gb] Date 12.07.05 20:33 UTC
LOL, I just view them as extra roughage...they say we need more and dog hairs are free :D
- By suzieque [gb] Date 12.07.05 19:59 UTC
Always by breaking the bottom off the cone and filling it with ice cream off the top of mine!  And sometimes I buy him his own cornet.  We were picnicking at Salisbury Cathederal one year and a Japanese family came over and started to take photos of us as we were all enjoying our own ice cream including a cornet for the dog!
- By Emily Rose [gb] Date 12.07.05 20:22 UTC
We buy them their own as a birthday treat, I remember one year what a mess about we had with 2 excited dogs(this was before we got Beard Boy!) who were pulling us all over and we were each trying to hold 2 ice creams, each with 2 scoops on :D Once we found a seat it was well worth it tho....and lots of fun trying to catch the drips as they melted!!!
- By bevb [in] Date 13.07.05 10:34 UTC
My JR loves sharing Ice poles with my teenage daughter

- By Natalie1212 Date 13.07.05 12:08 UTC
I may well change my mind when we get our dog, but at this moment after reading all of this, my skin is crawling, how can you put something in your mouth, that has been in a dog's mouth, who licks/eats some VERY nasty things??? I knew you lot were mad, but this bites the bullet!!!!! :D LOL :D
- By Isabel Date 13.07.05 12:44 UTC
I'll be very surprised if you are not kissing that pup as soon as you get it Natalie :) So what is the difference?
- By Blondiflops [gb] Date 13.07.05 12:53 UTC
I agree with Natalie, at first I didnt mind but once I saw my dogs eat their first pile of poo I would no longer share!

YUCK!
- By earl [gb] Date 13.07.05 13:11 UTC
Of course, everything gets shared with the dog - although I have to admit that we usually get an empty container to put her share in or we'd never have any ourselves.

We were all sitting in the car the other day outside the ice cream shop happily eating our cones (Roxy eating hers out a carton) when a man came out with a medium sized dog and a cone.  As they were walking down the street the man was happily licking his ice cream while the dog walked beside him at which point I'm ranting in the car about what a horrible man, how can he not give his poor dog something in this heat, what sort of owner is he, I'd share anything with Rox, give the doggie to me and I'd give him/her some of my ice cream!  After the man had about three licks of his cone, he stopped and gave the rest to the dog.  I felt much better after I saw that, if not a little mean for thinking such horrible things about a man who obviously loves his dog very much.  :)
- By Natalie1212 Date 13.07.05 16:33 UTC
I won't be letting the pup lick my face, I find it revolting even sharing with my hubbie or son, it is just the way I am!
- By ShaynLola Date 13.07.05 13:06 UTC
I'll give you a few month with your new pup, Natalie...then I guarantee that you'll be just like the rest of us :D No point even trying to fight it...
- By Blondiflops [gb] Date 13.07.05 13:08 UTC
NOT ON THE MOUTH OOOOOO!
- By Nickyxh [gb] Date 13.07.05 13:26 UTC
Oh ME GOD! I'm with you Natalie - this post has me feeling very sick indeed.  We get our puppy next week (yippeee) but there is no way I'm licking anything it licks!!! YEUCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 13.07.05 13:30 UTC
Trust me, before long you won't mind at all! ;)
:)
- By ShaynLola Date 13.07.05 13:31 UTC
I'm noticing that it's only those who DON'T yet have dogs who are finding this unappetising ;) You just wait... :P
- By Blondiflops [gb] Date 13.07.05 13:46 UTC
I have 3 dogs!!  2, 1 year olds and 1 ,4mth old pup!

NO WAY! Would I lick anything these lick, they eat poo! they eat vomit! Im gonna puke!
- By caz3536 [gb] Date 13.07.05 13:34 UTC
I don't know why (must of read it somewhere) I thought Ice Cream was dangerous for dogs, the shock of the cold on their systems or something like that.

I guess you lot have proved that theory wrong :-D

Now where's that ice cream van when you want one?
- By ShaynLola Date 13.07.05 13:39 UTC
I believe ice cream is dangerous too... to me, anyway as I'm almost trampled to death in the stampede the minute the freezer door is opened :D
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 13.07.05 13:40 UTC

>the shock of the cold on their systems or something like that.

Lots of people give their dogs icecubes as a treat, especially in hot weather. ;) It's perfectly safe.
:)
- By ice_cosmos Date 13.07.05 13:48 UTC
Yes - my two love Ice cubes (especially flavoured ones ;) ) I often put them in their water in hot weather and they enjoy picking them out and crunching on them :D
- By kayc [gb] Date 13.07.05 13:53 UTC
The only time I object to my dogs kisses, is when they all want kisses at the same time.  rugbyscrum I have to crawl out from underneath them, I turn back and for some reason they still think I am still down there :D :D 8 bums stuck in the air, a pretty sight :P
- By abbymum [gb] Date 13.07.05 13:49 UTC
Abby does like to share my icecream and water bottles when out people give us all sorts of strange looks. The only problem I have is when it is my turn she keeps nudging me as if to say hurry up its my turn dont eat it all bless.
Mary
- By Vicki [gb] Date 13.07.05 13:57 UTC
Well, I must say I haven't actually "shared" as such, just saved a bit at the end for the two of them.  However, I don't have a severe aversion to dog spit so I shan't be ruling it out :D :D
- By ice_cosmos Date 13.07.05 13:46 UTC
You'll soon change your mind :D
- By Blondiflops [gb] Date 13.07.05 13:47 UTC
Dont do it! they eat POO!
- By Isabel Date 13.07.05 13:52 UTC
:D I must admit I don't snog my dogs on the actual day that I catch them sniffing, licking or eating anything unpleasant but I soon forget and after 40 odd years of my disgusting habits here I am large as life and twice as healthy, it would appear, than my non pet owning friends.
- By Blondiflops [gb] Date 13.07.05 13:58 UTC
Isabel you have a point but still urgh! :D

I have equally disgusting habits so I guess that makes us about even!

I always let my dogs have the last night so they dont miss out!!
- By ice_cosmos Date 13.07.05 14:08 UTC
:D Same here - if they've eaten anything unpleasant (in my mind - i'm sure they think it's great ;) ) then they don't get a kiss or get to share my food that day :) (well, until I forget anyway)
- By Maudlily [gb] Date 13.07.05 14:19 UTC
I have 2 dogs and there is no way I would share with them, ugh!  They are forever shoving their noses up other dogs backsides and lord alone knows what they pick up over the park :D

(Although I do confess to wiping the rim of a rather large wine glass with a rather large amount of white wine in after Maud supped from it when I stupidly left the glass on the floor to answer the phone)
- By BorderCollieLvr [gb] Date 13.07.05 14:24 UTC
I've always shared and as much crap as they have eaten im definately still not dead, insane possible. But i am definately mostly healthy and i have the dogs in the bed and i have got in the bath with them to bath them and definately share most food. If i die of any effects from dog poisoning ill be sure to let you know. I bet you doggie owners to be will soon just fall into owned by a dog catagory.
- By Maudlily [gb] Date 13.07.05 14:31 UTC
Nope!  Never going to happen :P  Not even if the brush, floss and gargle :D
- By Enfielrotts [eu] Date 13.07.05 14:47 UTC
I don't care, I gave Bali a kiss this morning and he managed to tongue me LOL he he, it was a nice surprise actually ;)  With all the dogs I have kissed, let share stuff, eaten dog hairs, picked up numerous amounts of poo etc etc I have yet to suffer :) Bring on the tongues I say!  Actually I met anohter rottie in the vets today and he gave me a whopping kiss, never met him but if I had to go without one thing in my life it certainly would not be a huge rottie snog!
- By labmad [gb] Date 13.07.05 15:03 UTC
Too right I do,  Henry has a lick first then I do.  Share and share a like!!
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 13.07.05 15:35 UTC
Yep, lick for lick with ice creams - even mouthful for lap with my beer! ;)
:D
- By keeley [gb] Date 13.07.05 15:32 UTC
Kelly you're potty!!!  EEEEUUUUGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!  Never would I share anything with my dog, it's disgusting!!!  He's allowed to lick my cheek, but that's as near to my mouth as he gets! :)
- By Blondiflops [gb] Date 13.07.05 15:37 UTC
Im with you Shakey I never let my dogs lick my face urgh!!! Im sure it wouldnt do any harm but its NASTY!
Plus it would probably give me even more spots than I have already!

I am forever washing my hands after touching the dogs, I think Im obsessive!
- By Minipeace [gb] Date 13.07.05 15:50 UTC
I always hug and kiss Bruce, he covers me with drool :D The worst time is after his lunch, he always leaves a slime trail of food on my cheeks. He has a thing about horse poo on his walks and when we get home he gives Pa a big lick on the face. I keep the horse poo a secret from Pa :D
- By Maudlily [gb] Date 13.07.05 15:56 UTC
:D at Minipeace!  I don't allow mine to sleep on my side of the bed either but husband allows them to sleep on his side and his side of the linen is always slobbery and manky (although that could be just him)
