Our 17 week old CKCS has taken to scratching (in a digging sort of manner) at the rug in the lounge, her bed, and the throw on the sofa and we don't know why.  She doesn't do it all the time, usually in the evening when she's had her dinner etc and is settling down for a nap. We wondered if it's her way of making herself comfy like when humans fluff up the cushions etc.  We tell her to stop as we don't want her scratching holes in the rug etc.  Has anyone any ideas why she might be doing this?

At the moment it may be that it's just too hot and she really doesn't want it.  Mine have all scratched up their beds and are lying on the nice cool tiling :d  I wish that I could do that rather than be at work right now!

That would explain scratching at the vetbed as she does remove the vetbed, her cushion and the blanket from her bed and lay on the plastic bed, but what about the rug and the throw, why would she scratch at them?

my pup would rather sleep on the metal part of her crate becuase its cooler even though she has a comfy bed in there too

We spoke to the trainer at puppy classes last night as she also runs behaviour classes.  She said that our puppy is trying to make "her bed" ie our sofa or the rug, comfy.  She said if we don't want her to do it on the sofa, we should put her on the floor each time she starts.  To be honest, now we know it's not that she's being naughty, we don't mind her doing it, especially as we have a throw on the sofa and neither the rug nor the throw were particularly expensive.  It's not as though we stay at other people's houses, so we don't have to worry about her doing it to other people's furniture.

Thanks for the advice.
