Is there a difference between 'Show Champion' and 'Champion'? If yes, What's the difference?

In Gundogs 3 CCs in the showring only entitle the dog to a Sh Ch in front of its name.

To drop the Sh Ch and become a Ch the dog either needs to pass the SWGDC or win an award at a field trial to prove that it can fulfil the function for which it was originally designed.

& a Border Collie is only a Show Champion until it passes a sheep working test I think that there are only one or two full BC champions

if it has ft ch it means it is a field trial champion and not a show champion

Ob Ch means obedience champion, Ag Ch means Agility Champion, WT Ch means Working Trials Champion.

The Show Gundog Working Certificate is pretty straighforward. I'd seriously question whether a dog incapable of passing should ever be classified as a 'gundog'. Fitness doesnt really come into the equation, the test is more of natural aptitude; tender retriever, no noise, willingness to enter cover and water, not gun-shy etc.

Like people have said its all to do with trials really. Terriers are just Ch because they don't really do trials. Gundogs are SH CH in the ring and are not classes as CH until they have been made a champion in the gundogs trials and the show ring. It also goes for different breeds.

If they are working breeds eg gundogs they have to do that as people have said, but Toy breeds become Ch not Sh Ch if they get 3 CC's. Confusing eh!

I find that very interesting about gundogs and collies and quite rightly so!!  The ultimate dog is a dog that is fit for purpose and meets breed standard.  I've seen some show dogs that couldn't do a day's work if their life depended on it and that makes me really sad!!  On the other hand I've also seen some fabulous working dogs that would be thrown out of the ring!!!

Hear hear, my American cocker, if trained to be more obedient generally (!!) could easily do a days work, he can do a 20 mile walk no trouble. But he's always last in the show ring, poor thing, just because he is big and stocky without too much coat! I love him anyway though.
