Since i last posted the council have been in touch and basically told us we need planning permission for more than 4 dogs due to lack of eminety to the local general public. They have said that it is a change of use to our house and even if we apply for planning permission we wont get it!!!. So now we are stuck we are hoping to move asap, 2 spend time at my nans anyway and will be going there until we can move. Does anyone know what we can do? Theres no way we are re-homing any of them just coz of some mardy neighbour thats only been there a year.

If you do need to get your dog someone safe for a while (until you can find a new home!) how about contacting the breed club?  They may have some people on their rescue side who foster for them who may be willing to help you out by keeping the dogs safe and well.

Thanks ill try that, Cannock Council really arnt our favourite people at the moment they seem to be creating laws from no-where. We dont breed, board or use our dogs for any money making purpose. Hopefully the house will be going on the market by next week.

Thats so awful, having to sell your house and move just to keep your dogs. There is always someone who has to poke their noses in where their not wanted,  we have one like that at the bottom of our garden.

I agree that they pull laws out of thin air, we were told that by having one litter of puppies even if it was only every other year that we would have to apply for a breeders licence because it was classed as a business, i don't know how they think you can run a business on one litter of puppies every other year, but the cost of just applying for the licence was over £60.00 so all I can think is that they tell people this to get money out of them. We have got 4 adult dogs in our back garden but have had up to seven and the council automatically thought we were using them all for breeding but when I told them they were used for work they were a bit more understanding and not once did they tell me I had to apply for a licence just to keep them (only if I was using them all to breed, which I was not)

I really hope you can find somewhere nice to live where you and your dogs can live in peace.

Ask the council what use you have to apply for & I can tell you that they will not be able to answer ! If you don't breed or board dogs there is nothing you can be made to apply for A council tried it on a JP who had kennels & bred as a hobby breeder & they totally failed & gave up ! It was in the dog press either last year or the year before

I live in Cannock I have 5 dogs and never heard of anything so absurd have you checked the deeds to your property? as sometimes theres a limit as to how many dogs you are allowed to keep in a private dwelling.

I have had the council here regarding a problem I was having with rats (next door loads of rubbish long story) and not once was anything mentioned about the number of dogs I kept, which area of Cannock do you live?  Pm it to me if you like.

I also have the number of an excellent solicitor who deals with Cannock Council everyday....lol (Im Sure hes so fed up of dealing with them) I can pm the number if you like as he may beable to help get them off your back :)

wasnt there a breed note writer in one of the dog press - would it be the Pei writer in one of the papers, who took on a council under their sudden 6 dog rule - I meant to keep the article that was written but forgot, but maybe one of the Pei people could confirm if it was one of their breed note writers and maybe PM the contact details to you as from memory, they were willing to help anyone else that had problems.

Im really sorry that this has happened to you - my thoughts are with you
