Dick Finch is a breed specialist in Weimaraners but is also qualified to judge several other breeds. His affix is Hansom. He used to have Dallies.
Does anyone know if he is friendly with the Andrew Brace crowd?
Andrew Brace crowd?
Well to put it more simply Christine does he hang around with the batch of judges who seem to follow his judging ;)
One thing about Dick...."he will do his own thing" however good or bad that might seem to some, regardless of whether you like what he puts up or not you cannot say he was influenced by others judging........REMEMBER to ALWAYS LISTEN to what he asks you to do ie... a triangle MEANS A TRIANGLE don't round off the corners! and also a Straight line should be __________________ STRAIGHT!!
Dress correctly you have to be smart...ie no jeans and a tie and jacket (for men ofcourse)
Little things I know but hope they help
Gary

Sounds like his judging a handling class!!!!!!

I didn't know Andrew Brace had a crowd, I have always thought of Andrew Brace as being one of the most 'unpredictable' judges on the circuit!
Thank you Gary that is what I wanted to know. He has got a very low entry now being of suspicious mind wanted to know why as usually there is a reason. Paignton is a long way to go for us. There has been a few too many predicatable CC's going on at present than is healthy for the breed and strangely enough they all seem to be friends of AB. ;)

I agree. I for one have always valued his opinion, the last two times he judged Dallies it was a breath of fresh air to see he didn't 'go with the flow' and picked some really nice dogs, let's say he certainly wasn't facey in his judging.
Edited....I agree with Christine (why does the post never appear where you reply)

Would be interested to know who 'Andrew Brace's' crowd are. I went under AB last year at our club champ show and found him to be very fair - we got placed and we're definitely not faces. His judging style may be unusual - rather abrupt, but not what I'd consider facey.

he judged the utility group at blackpool and gave morris group 2, i think that was fair as she beet some well known dogs. Looking at triangles in more detail i have noticed alot of people in the breed ring cut of the corners alot and end up a diffrent shape.

Just for the record I have done very very well under him and have been mentioned in his column on how much he likes my dog so dont have a axe to grind. Good dogs constantly win because they are just that good dogs. And where have I ever said he was facey?

you didn't - say he was facey that is and I wasn't having a go. Just an observation that he couldn't have been facey as we were picked out lol!

I had a quick look at Dog World this morning before work and there is a complaint about Dick Finch to the Kennel Club. Something about his comments made to the Brittany's exhibitors.

I would say that he calls a spade a spade from what I remember of his Munster judging.

I have shown under him and douns some people were annoyed at teh amount of mving he asked for, and how he woudl ask you to mvoe with particular other dogs. It suited my Jozi though and she won a large Open stakes clas under him at the Houndshow a couple of years ago, beat a bitch he had give an champ group to, so was well chuffed.
Apparantly everybody who had been under him before was terrified of him but if you did what was asked he seemed fine. He told my friend she had done a lovely circle now could she go back and do a triangle as requested. Ian said he didnt move them as much Frank Kane does although we had a very small ring which was really anoying when there were loads of empty rings!

FK judged a local open show here a good few years ago & did the groups & the AV. I had entered my BC in the AV classes
He had a class of pastoral dogs all table dogs except my BC as each new dog moved off in their individual movement he said "put your dog on the table please" to the next handler, when it was my turn wirhout looking at my dog he said the same, his face was a picture when he turned to go over my boy, he was as instructed free standing on the table ! "BC's aren't table dogs"were his words "I know but you told me to put him on the table"was my reply, I noticed he did bother to look at the next dog in the rest of the classes before telling the handler to put the dog on the table, he also made me smile with his comment on my dog that he was nice type etc, but doubted he could work sheep ! I smiled sweetly & said "good job he doesn't think so as he qualified to run in the English National" I'd never seen him blush before but FK did that day !

Frank Kane...now there's a good judge! ;)
I remember showing under DF years ago & he said to me on examining Miranda "The pair of you look worried, don't be"! which broke ice.
I agree Christine Frank Kane really is a independant judge does his own thing and couldnt care less. I know I am biased because he loves my dog but I have known him to walk past us look down look at the dog then realise who we are. He is obsessed with movement and my dogs are exceptional movers. He knows I love him because I told him so and he also blushed on that occassion Moonmaiden!!!! ;)

lolol he did tell me to do a triangle etc which I did & that was when he made the remark re working lolol he then sent me three times round the ring & gave me the class :D

Frank Kane does tend to like some of the bitches I breed and it was only just over a month ago my Mia won the RCC & RBIS from him at our club champ show (Lovely crit in DW!!!), this was her 2nd from him so I have asked if next time he judges I might get the CC!?!? ;) Mia's mother, Miranda has had a 1st from him and Miranda's sister a RCC too.
To T-T-S Hope the little tips helped, well done on a great result for your breeding!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;-)
Lets put it this way I relayed EXACTLY what you said and it worked so thank you it really helped :)
