hi my bitch whelped yesterday morning all is fine 7 beutiful pups lost 2 but how can i be sure of sex i think ive sexed the pups but would like to know for sure thanks nicki

Puppies are one of the easiest species to sex at birth. Dog puppies have a penis on their bellies, quite near their umbilical, and bitch puppies have their vulva between the hind legs.

I agree, it's a doddle compared to so many other animals,  I suppose the only difficulty might be if they are all the same sex but even then it's hard to imagine someone getting it wrong :)

If you are a first time breeder I suppose it would be possible to mistake an umbilicus for male parts lol but as jeangenie says its pretty straight forward. Congratulations on your puppies Guest :-)
