Pesonally i love showing, make sure that you and your dog have fun,if you need any advice on how to show him ask somebody and watch what they are doing in the ring.
one final point to remember is listen to the judge and if you don,t understand him/her ask what he/she means.
I hope you enjoy your day and remember it is not about winning it is about competeing, and a fun day out for you and your dog.
I wish you good luck and hope you do well

Hi there  I love showing of any kind.  If it is a fun show you probably will only need to stand in the ring.  If there are some pedigree classes (and if its a companion show there will be) you will need to stand your dog in a line, the judge may then ask everyone to walk their dogs round the ring, then you will have to put Coco on a table for the judge to look at her (including her teeth) and then walk round the ring - usually a triangle and straight up and down.  Try and let at least a couple of people go in front of you and you can always say to the steward its your first show and a good steward should look out for you.    One thing when you move coco - make sure she is between you and the judge so that the judge sees him and not you and walk at a pace that suits your dog.  Then when the judge has seen all the dogs, stand him again in the line up for the judge to have another look.  You might need to do this in a novelty class too, or more likely just some of it, if it is for best condition or a more serious class.  But the real fun classes you really only need to stand there and for handsomest dog etc just try and sit your dog facing towards the judge when he/she comes round.  Have a great day and enjoy it - you may get hooked like so many of us do. Let us know how you and coco get on.

hi!thank you everyone for your replies, dachies lad-you where exactly right,i had to do all the things you said!coco didnt do very well in the pedigree class as it was more serious and coco got very shy and didnt like standing on the table but in the most handsome dog he got a rossete so we where pleased!he may not have done brilliantly but it was his first show and i think he did well,i will definitly be entering him in more as it was very enjoyable and my girl- i hope you did well in your show!

Aw thanks Coco we got 2 rosettes which were for 5th places :D My girl did well and did as she was asked couldn't have asked for anything more other than a better judge ;) (GSD breeder judge and guess what got placed 1st every single time!)
All good fun and such a glorious day worth the entry fee anyway :)

Well done on your show :)

Hi - I'm glad you enjoyed yourself and came home with a rossette - it makes the day doesn't it?  We went to a comp show today and got 2nd in sporting.  If you plan to start showing even at the more fun/comp shows then you might like to do a few ring craft classes to help both you and coco - well worth doing if you can find one in your area.  If you can't find anything through the KC or searching just go to a show and ask someone who looks as though they know what they are doing, or ask the organisers.  Good luck for your future shows
