My young collie pup was attacked last night by a German Shepherd, although the owner pulled him off quickly (he was on a lead) my baby 's mouth was pouring with blood. The vet confirmed he had bitten his own tongue and there are a couple of notch-like wounds on the tip of it.
Can anyone tell me if these will heal Ok or will he always have a bit missing?
I've never has a dog with an injury like this before.

The best person to answer this was the vet who examined him.
My friends pup cut his tongue (at the side) and although there was lots of blood, the tongue did heal completely.
I would contact your vet again and ask his opinion.

I had a lab bitch who used to run with her mouth open. One day she tore off after a rabbit through some brambles and when she came back her mouth was poring with blood. Once the blood had stopped I could see that she had actually tore her tounge and it was all jaggered skin and quite deep. But after just a few days it was all healed and you would never have known she had done it.

Hope your pups ok :)
