Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / Doing a poo indoors! :(
- By Blues mum Date 07.07.05 07:06 UTC
Hi all, over these last couple of days blue has decided that when im upstairs putting my little boy to bed to leave me a little present when i come back down!
But this morning i got up at 6 as usual to let him out for a wee and he normally does a poo at this time to but he didnt so in he comes and back to bed we go for an hour, up i get at 7 to let the dogs out, charlie goes out but blue just watches so i thought ah well maybe he dont need to go, so im off making breakfast for son and dogs when i smell poo! look round and there it is on the floor behind me! :( so went to find him and he knows when he does it that its wrong coz he looks really guilty and hides lol, so i found him, showed it to him, told him he was a bad boy and put him out the back to where he should have done it for a couple of minutes. When i walked back in found another pile on the carpet in the frontroom, i have to say i was not impressed! doing it on lino in the kitchen is one thing but not on the carpet!
Im ALWAYS letting blue out to do wee`s and poo`s and his never done this before, i know his a baby and ive only had him home for 4 weeks but cant understand why his just started to do this? am i doing anything wrong? and am i doing the right thing when he has done this?
The stones outside are all wet where its been crap weather these last couple of days, dont know if he might not like to do it when its wet, has no probs doing a wee tho and saying that yesterday he pooed for england, as well as one for indoors!

When my son was small the puppy (then about 4 months) who was otherwise completely housetrained started to poo on the hall carpet when I took my son upstairs to bath him. There was no point in scolding her - I hadn't caught her 'in the act' so it was too late for that! She didn't do it at other times - the habit stopped when I shut her in the kitchen before we went upstairs rather than leaving her loose downstairs. The change of routine stopped it immediately.

Hope this helps.

Welcome to the world of Danes :D Willis was always very clean - apart from the fact that he used to forget to wee outside and come in and dribble it from one end of the room to the other :D

You need to go right back to basics. No point scolding him or showing him what he's done, he won't understand that. He will need to go at 6am so go out with him and stay out until he does it, lots of praise and fuss and back to bed to settle.

Its easy to forget these pups are still very very young and it can take a while to housetrain them. You will find folk you meet expect them to behave better and be more advanced training wise than their age because they are so big. Try to work out his routine... and really he still needs to go out every 20 minutes or so when he's awake and this age.

Hi, My puppy used to do this if i shut her in the kitchen while i went upstairs. I would come down and open the kitchen door and smear poo under the door and all over the floor which was lovely.. It didn't matter if i had just let her out she would always poo and/or wee???? (but not on the scale you'll be getting...lol) :D The reason i used to shut her in the kitchen is because she can fit through the stairgate and she fell down stairs the first time she went up. But now i have stopped leaving her in the kitchen and she sits at the bottom of the stairs waiting for me but she still manages to creep upstairs sometimes.. I think she only did it cos i left her as she is usually really good in the house. I have had a couple of accidents in the house in the last few days because she doesn't like the rain. We may get some sun one day soon and i'm sure they'll be as good as gold again.. Goodluck :)

Hi there

Sometimes puppies do take a step back too.  You think you have it all sorted and they just surprise you!  Little cherubs!!!  Agree with JG about confining him.  I had this problem with one of mine and confining her to one room sorted it out.  Is he feeling OK today?  Perhaps he has an upset tum and is feeling out of sorts!  Masybe not thinking straight!  Just a thought.

Good luck

Hi Annie, his fine, not loose or anything, took him to the vets today for his 2nd vac, he was a very good boy and he came home and went straight outside and done a poo! he says it was scary!

So it was just a hiccup then!!!!  Everything's back to normal!  They always surprise you though.  Glad to hear he's back on track.
