- By bulldogger [gb] Date 05.07.05 20:04 UTC
I HAVE STARTED TO CRATE TRAIN MY BULLDOG, SHE IS NOW 15 WEEKS OLD AND WAS GETTING ON FINE FOR THE 1ST COUPLE OF WEEKS BUT HAS NOW TAKEN TO USING HER CRATE AS A TOILET??? EVEN IF THE CRATE IS OPEN AND SHE IS OUTSIDE, SHE WOULD COME IN AND DO HER BUSINESS IN THE CRATE.. CAN ANYONE OFFER ADVICE ON HOW TO SOLVE THIS ISSUE???? CHEERS MATT

If the crate has a removable tray remove it and just put new blankets back in the crate and leave the tray out, that way if she wants to use it she has the opportunity to do so and the crate then remains clean. You can then move the tray nearer to the door to outside so that she remembers that is where she has to make her way to. Also keep the crate door shut until she needs to go in it. All puppies have a loss of memory some times and just need a little nudge in the right direction. :-) Don't use anything smelly to wash the tray with, just very hot water to clean it. Smells sometimes attract pups and dogs back to the same spot. If you do want to use something then white vinegar is good.
